Black Ops 6 Zombies’ Next Map Can’t Repeat This Tomb Mistake

Black Ops 6 Zombies’ Next Map Can’t Repeat This Tomb Mistake

After a largely positive launch and first season, a portion of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies fans were let down by the mode’s big season 2 additions. While it was exciting to see another round-based map being added so soon after Citadelle Des Morts, there was some worry that it was dropping too soon to be fully fleshed out, and for some those concerns turned out to be true. In the eyes of more critical Black Ops 6 Zombies fans, The Tomb was a major disappointment, with the fan base citing a fair number of reasons for this assessment.

Re-used assets ranging from the Ice Staff Wonder Weapon to mini-bosses, an awkward end cinematic that drew attention to the Black Ops 6 voice actor situation, and a brutally short main quest Easter egg all served as weak points for fans. Season 2 bringing back Death Perception as its “new” perk, a meme in the Zombies community, did not help matters, nor did the TMNT-themed version of Cranked which failed to live up to the hype. Additionally, there is an element of The Tomb that has gone under the radar, but could be contributing to the rushed and unfinished vibes: a lack of Aether bunny and mini-game Easter eggs.

To be clear, not everyone dislikes The Tomb, as it has its share of strengths. Its environmental design, Zombie models, challenging final boss, and the Golden Armor side quest are all deserving of praise.

It’s Time For Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to Take a ‘Show, Not Tell’ Approach With Richtofen

With Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies now four maps into its life cycle, it’s long past time for Richtofen to become more prominent in the story.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Tomb Map Broke a Fun Pattern

With the first three Black Ops 6 Zombies, fans got to hunt down the Aether Bunny – AKA Mr. Peeks – for some fun side Easter eggs. For Liberty Falls, players shot some tennis shoes themed around the Mystery Box guardian to enter into a Bowling Alley. In Terminus, players encountered Mr. Peeks at the end of the boat race side quest. Citadelle Des Morts saw players hunting down three variants of Peeks scattered throughout the castle and village before shooting a fourth trapped within a dungeon cell to get a free perk.

For those who played Black Ops Cold War, these Aether Bunny quests are nothing new, as players encountered a number of them in that game. Whether they were triggering a Peeks jumpscare in Firebase Z or visiting a nightclub run by the bunny, these secrets have been a recurring form of side content to distinguish Dark Aether maps from their Aether counterparts. In Black Ops 6, they have gone hand-in-hand with the mini-game side quests (though Citadelle Des Morts separated its Peeks and mini-game content). With each of the first three Black Ops 6 Zombies maps having appearances from Peeks alongside special mini-games, as Citadelle Des Morts let players serve drinks to the undead, fans assumed every map in the game would have some form of mini-game to shake things up. Sadly, The Tomb proved this belief wrong, as both the demonic stuffed animal and a fresh mini-game were MIA.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies’ Next Map Will Hopefully Bring Back These Easter Eggs

With Treyarch getting some extra time to work on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies’ mansion map, as Season 3 has been delayed to ensure Warzone’s content lives up to expectations, hopefully the developer will be able to add another mini-game and/or a Mr. Peeks quest. It would be perfectly fine to combine the two like Liberty Falls and Terminus did, as an appearance from the bunny within a side activity that boasts a fresh gameplay loop can be a winning combo. After seeing these forms of content for three straight maps, it was jarring for them to be absent in The Tomb. While the mansion map and other BO6 additions bringing these side quest types back would only make The Tomb stand out like a sore thumb even more, it would ultimately still be worth it, as they’re memorable additions that provide content which is simultaneously familiar and unique.
