Summary
- Forza Horizon 5’s PS5 port should be exciting, but there are a surprising number of requirements and issues so far.
- A new one has just been revealed, as the game will require a Microsoft account to play on PSN.
- With the game being digital only, this linking does create some worries for Forza Horizon 5’s longevity.
An F&Q posted on the Forza Horizon 5 website has confirmed that the PS5 port of the game will still require a Microsoft account to sign in, sparking worries about its playability and preservation in the future.
If there’s one thing that we learnt about gamers over the past year, it’s that they really don’t like having to create multiple accounts to play games. That’s been an issue for PC players for a while with Epic and Ubisoft‘s launchers, but it’s started to come back in full force now that multiple consoles are embracing sharing their first-party releases.

The first big case of this was Helldivers 2 on PC requiring a PlayStation Network account to play, resulting in the game getting its user score tanked. PlayStation has continued to make this mistake since then before eventually basically giving up, but it seems that Microsoft hasn’t quite learned from that yet.
You’ll Need A Microsoft Account To Play Forza Horizon 5 On PS5
As reported by Push Square, an F&Q has recently been posted on the Forza Motorsport website regarding Forza Horizon 5’s PS5 port. We’ve already learned some worrying things about Horizon 5 in the past few weeks, such as it not having a disk release, but the F&Q has a doozy when it comes to account linking.
According to the site, anyone playing Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 is going to need a Microsoft account in addition to their PS5 one, a process that will start when they boot up the game. You’ll need to link your Xbox Live account to your PSN to play Forza Horizon 5 at all, which could spell issues in the future if that linking is ever deactivated.
The F&A does note that linking a Microsoft account to PSN is “on a title-by-title basis” and “permanent”, meaning that players can unlink their PSN account for Forza Horizon 5 but will only be able to relink to the original Microsoft one. Sounds confusing, right? That’s because it is.
Combine this account requirement with the fact that Forza Horizon 5 is going to be digital only on PSN (a worry since Forza games have been delisted before), and it does seem like a big worry for preservation. It’ll be entirely up to Microsoft to keep the game up, and considering the woes of licensed music, it’s anyone’s guess how long that can be done for.
