The third scenario in the Sins of New Wells DLC for The Rise of the Golden Idol is certainly one of the more complicated ones. This throws us back into ‘working out how these odd symbols affect the world’ territory as we unpick the horrific experiments inflicted on some men.

The 19 Best Detective Games, Ranked
Video games revolving around being a detective are few and far between, and these ten are the absolute best when it comes to this underrated genre.
You have all the clues you’d need at your disposal, of course, but things remain incredibly cryptic. You’ll need to do some very generous reading into the dialogues and notes you can find here. If you’re looking for clues as to the answers, or even the answers handed to you on a platter, we have them right here for you.
All Cartoon Solutions
The first challenge of this scenario involves the testing on the three men inside the room. The men here are all being subjected to some mysterious powers (likely Idol-related!) and then forced to watch the same cartoons.
There are no words to find in this case, as there are in most other cases. Instead, you must examine all the available spots and solve the panels that you already have access to in order to complete this case.
The book to the left of the room describes in detail what you outcomes are expected from the various levels of testing, and it’s clear quickly that you have the results of a Low, Medium, and High pattern test to work out.
- The first man received the Low pattern. With mind mostly remaining the same, you can expect his interpretation of the cartoon to be accurate, but chronology might be a bit messed up.
- The second man had the Medium pattern, so you can expect to have to interpret his words a bit more loosely – ‘pictures wrong’ is the operative phrase here. The events will match the events in the cartoon, but not objects/creatures. Instead, focus on the actions.
-
The third man had the High pattern, meaning his reports are the most abstract. Importantly, it’s stated in the book that there’s no care for the story presented to him, but his mind followed the pictures – so here you’ll need to try harder to match up the words to the pictures you see.
- Think about what an orchid could mean, along with applause, something with two heads, etcetera.
All Accounts And Translation Solutions
Working out what the men are actually saying in their interviews is one of the tougher asks in this scenario.
- You know that the first man is the most lucid, so you can be sure that he’s a good place to start.
- The second man refers to a ringmaster. What could that be his brain’s ‘code’ for?
- The second man’s single statement couldn’t be first chronologically when you compare it to the first statement from the first man.
- We know that the ‘lady and her gangsters’ must have left the building without passing through the door. Examine the outside of the building to help you decipher the third man’s words regarding this.
-
The third man made the most statements, but remember that his perception of chronology is totally messed up. This does not mean that his series of events is messed up, it might just mean the words he uses to put his thoughts in order are completely incorrect. It’s your job to put them into the factual order.
- It’ll help a lot to solve the Translation panel at the same time to decipher his words.
The next part of this scenario is to decipher exactly what the third man is saying. This will require some odd logic:
- Triptrop is the oddest one here. It seems to be referring to a person; who do all three men refer to, if not by name?
- Silver String is actually quite obvious when you look at the words available to you.
- The Angels are said to accompany Triptrop. Think about who Triptrop is and who was with them.
- For Open Book, think about what sorts of things can be open or closed.
- Robot’s Finger related to the visual appearance of something.
- For Twin, look at the scene from the outside. What things look identical?
- For Bowels, think about what ‘Bowels’ usually refers to in terms of locations, and examine the building from the outside.
- Armored Horse is quite simple – what are horses for, and what can you see outside?
All Events Solutions
Now is when you can start making full sense of the events of this scenario.
- The first man’s account will make more sense when you examine the physical conditions of all three test subjects. It’ll make one of the red words in this section of the panel make far more sense.
- There are eight separate actions to work out here – many of them depict the same group of people’s actions.
- The third man’s account also describes what happened – use this with your translations to be able to sort everything out in your mind.
- The actions depicted here are very current. There’s a car that you should recognise the description of from a previous case.
