Considering how tight-lipped and secretive both Naughty Dog and HBO have been about Season 2 of The Last of Us, you might be surprised to learn that we’re only one month away from its release. We’ve only seen a few glimpses of the show’s return so far, which means there’s plenty to be discovered when Season 2 actually starts in April.

Naughty Dog loves surprises.

While we’re all waiting to see how HBO handles that scene and traumatises a whole new generation of fans, the final trailer for Season 2 appears to have accidentally been shared a little too early. That trailer gives us our best look yet at the show so far and teases a few exciting and surprising elements.

The Last Of Us Season 2’s Final Trailer Has Leaked

As spotted by Redditor thelazure on the The Last of Us HBO subreddit, the final trailer for the second season has seemingly leaked on HBO Max in certain territories. The trailer is the longest we’ve had for the new season since it was announced and shows off far more than we’ve seen before.

One of the highlights of the trailer is when it shows us our first glimpse of Joel and Ellie’s big argument about what happened at the hospital in the first season. This gives us some indication of where the story is going to go up to in Season 2, although we’ll have to wait to see how it’s handled in terms of chronology. There also seems to a hint at the beloved museum scene as well.

We also see a scene showing Joel admiring Ellie’s tattoo, suggesting its origin might get a little more focus than in the game.

Perhaps the most interesting scene of the trailer comes when Ellie spies an infected pinned to the wall that looks like it’s breathing spores. The first season of the show cut spores from the narrative altogether and had a new origin for the infection, but it looks like it’s making a comeback here.

While the final trailer does tease a lot more scenes and plot threads than the other two we’ve had so far, it leaves enough to the imagination and makes it so we have more questions than answers. We’ll find out for sure in just a month’s time.
