Boruto is a disappointing sequel. Naruto has the potential for a prequel to Boruto.
From their number, to the fact that they weren’t even enemies to begin with, everything started to unravel slowly in the Naruto series. Above all, as this series drew closer to its end, fans also found out a ton of exciting information about the past of Tailed Beasts, such as their origin, alongside things like who created them in the first place.
How The Tailed Beasts Were Introduced In Naruto
- The Tailed Beasts Are Mighty Beings With Immense Power
- Kurama Was First Tailed Beast To Be Introduced
It is no surprise to know that the Tailed Beasts are mighty beasts with tremendous power, and that they play an integral role in the Naruto series. After all, fans were introduced to the Tailed Beasts right at the very beginning of the story with the Nine Tailed Fox, also known as the Kyuubi. This fox was revealed to have been sealed inside Naruto Uzumaki by none other than the Fourth Hokage of Konoha. Although Naruto Uzumaki led an atrocious life due to the Nine-Tailed Fox, the importance of the beast in his life was paramount and without him, Naruto most certainly wouldn’t have been the man he is today. Initially, Naruto and Kurama had a very hostile relationship, however, with time, this changed.

Naruto Uzumaki and Kurama got closer, and eventually, by the time of the Fourth Great Ninja War, a lot of the differences between them had been bridged already. In the War itself, Naruto Uzumaki saw to it that Kurama ended up becoming his friend and they formed a very strong bond that couldn’t be broken even by the likes of Madara Uchiha. Knowing that Naruto and Kurama eventually befriended each other, it is no surprise to know that the other Tailed Beasts were also friendly in nature, although demonized by the humans.
For instance, Shukaku was the second Tailed Beast to be introduced in Naruto, right after Kurama. He was sealed inside Gaara at birth and just like Kurama, Shukaku was initially shown to be demonic, even going as far as possessing Gaara when he slept at times. However, eventually, Shukaku was stripped from Gaara, and what’s more, the two went on to bridge the gaps they had in the Fourth Great Ninja War.
Throughout the second half of the Naruto series, fans kept being introduced to powerful villains, such as different members of the Akatsuki, and their goal was simple — to collect all Tailed Beasts for a special plan to bring about world peace. It was at this point that fans found out that there were none Tailed Beasts in total, each of them carrying different powers, and almost all of them having special Jinchuriki of their own like Naruto. The fact that nine of these beasts existed meant that there had to have been some point of origin of them, and for the longest time, fans were wondering about this, and rightly so. It was much later in the story, specifically in the Fourth Great Ninja War, that Kishimoto went on to reveal how the Tailed Beasts came to be.
How The Tailed Beasts Were Created In Naruto
Hagoromo Otsutsuki Created The Tailed Beasts
The Tailed Beasts didn’t always exist in the Naruto series. In fact, there was a time when the Tailed Beasts didn’t exist on Earth. To take it a step further, there was a time when even chakra didn’t exist on earth. However, all of this changed with the arrival of the Otsutsuki clan members on Earth. Kaguya Otsutsuki, along with her Isshiki Otsutsuki, came to the Earth and wanted to use this planet to harvest a chakra fruit.
As a seed for the God Tree was planted, Kaguya betrayed Isshiki and left him at death’s door. She consumed the Chakra Fruit by herself, gaining immense powers. Eventually, Kaguya fell in love with a human and with him, gave birth to two children — Hagoromo and Hamura Otsutsuki. It would be the former who eventually led to the birth of the Tailed Beasts.
One day, you shall reunite once again. — Hagoromo Otsutsuki
While Kaguya ruled the earth first quite well, eventually, she started getting corrupt with power and wanted to reclaim the chakra that her children had, simply by virtue of being hers. She started a war that unleashed the Ten-Tails upon the earth, and Hagoromo and Hamura worked together to defeat her. Eventually, the Ten Tails was sealed inside Hagoromo Otsutsuki after Kaguya’s defeat. Hagoromo went from place to place, spreading chakra for the sake of Ninshu, and eventually being revered as the Sage of Six Paths.

The Fourth Ninja Great shaped Naruto. Here’s how.
On his deathbed, Hagoromo Otsutsuki saw to it that the chakra of the Ten-Tails that he had was split. Using the power of Ying-yang Release, Hagoromo split the chakra into nine parts, creating the nine Tailed Beasts. Each of the Tailed Beasts was given a name. Shukaku was the One Tail, Matatabi was the Two Tails, Isobu was the Three-Tails, Son Goku was the Four Tails, Kokuo was the Five Tails, Saiken was the Six Tails, Chomei the Seven Tails, Gyuki the Eight-Tails, and finally, Kurama the Nine Tails. The Sage of Six Paths told them they would reunite once again sometime later down the line, and that there would come a person who would show them what true power and cooperation was, and as fans know, this person was Naruto Uzumaki. As the chakra of the Ten-Tails was split, the husk was sealed away inside the moon. Hamura was sent to the moon to watch over it.
The Fate Of The Tailed Beasts After The Fourth Great Ninja War
The Tailed Beasts Were Reunited And Freed
Naruto Uzumaki, the Child of Prophecy, was the one who freed the Tailed Beasts and truly forged a bond of friendship with all of them. Eventually, he freed them from Madara, Kaguya, and Sasuke’s grasp, giving them true freedom. The Tailed Beasts were free to roam the world, but Naruto still served as the link between them. Kurama ended up staying with Naruto Uzumaki, and Gyuki decided to stay with Killer Bee. The rest roamed the world freely, and unfortunately, they haven’t been brought up in the story ever since.
