When Pokemon began its pop culture takeover, the franchise hit from multiple sides, offering video games, a tabletop game, an animated TV series, manga comic books, and more for fans to dive into. With so many different ways to enjoy Pokemon, even those who weren’t interested in video games often gained a strong understanding of and fondness for the series because they could take part in other ways, like watching the show. The Pokemon anime has had a lot of legendary moments, but most fans probably wouldn’t think of this funny meme to get as a tattoo.

Over on Reddit, user thehanss, who is a tattoo artist, shared the hilarious meme they got to ink on a client. The meme in question is an image of Jigglypuff as seen from above. The image shows the top of Jigglypuff’s round shape, with her curl, part of her eyes, and her ears visible, but nothing beyond that. Other than an oval shadow being cast by the Pokemon, that makes up the entirety of the tattoo, which could leave some viewers who aren’t familiar with the classic anime episodes scratching their heads.
Why is Jigglypuff Seen From Above on This Tattoo?
Those who remember this iconic episode will may get a chuckle out of it, like many of those in the comments section have. During Ash’s first arc, where he gradually gathers the gym badges needed to participate in the Indigo League championships, episode 56 focuses on a Pokemon academy, which Ash and Team Rocket members Jessie and James enter. One of the questions the participants have to answer is based on “Who’s that Pokemon?” and shows a completely round shape, which draws mixed answers, including Voltorb or an Electrode. However, it turns out to be a Jigglypuff as seen from above, frustrating the participants at how impossible the answer was to guess.
The franchise has spawned more than a fair share of Pokemon memes over the years, with both the anime and the game generations having their own. While it’s not known if the client had any particular attachment to this moment, Jigglypuff, or just wanted something funny, it’s certainly an unusual choice that will draw a lot of attention from fans in the know – and curiosity from those who don’t.
