As speculation and rumors surrounding Hogwarts Legacy 2 grow, players and dedicated Potterheads have thrown many alleged features into the ring. Many players hope that Quidditch will finally head to Hogwarts Legacy in its sequel, but one important aspect of the original Harry Potter series remains missing from Hogwarts Legacy. Perhaps Hogwarts Legacy 2 will finally introduce this important, powerful, and intimate part of sorcery to the video game franchise.
In addition to Quidditch, players are also hoping to see features like merpeople, new beasts, and new settings in the Hogwarts Legacy sequel. A new game could also finally receive full-fledged DLC and perhaps even multiplayer capabilities. However, in particular, one spell has gone unsupported by Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. Games. Giving players the opportunity to discover their Patronus could add a new level of immersion to the world of the Hogwarts Legacy franchise.

Potion ingredients can be hard to keep stocked in Hogwarts Legacy. Here are some of the best places to replenish your stores.
Patronuses Have Made Their Mark on Harry Potter, But Not in Hogwarts Legacy
For Hogwarts Legacy players not in the know, a Patronus is a mist-like manifestation of an animal that acts as a guardian for witches and wizards. These guardians come to life from a witch or wizard’s wand after casting the Patronus Charm though summoning warm memories or happy thoughts is necessary for the spell to be successfully cast. As one of the strongest defensive spells in a wizard’s arsenal, the Harry Potter series first introduced the spell as a way to combat Dementors in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Harry would later go on to teach his friends and members of Dumbledore’s Army the spell in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
These animal guardians have a personal tie to their spellcaster. Notable examples in the Harry Potter series revolve around the Potter family and Snape. Harry cast the same Patronus as his father, a stag, and his mother Lily’s Patronus was a doe. Snape, who had a long unrequited love for Lily, also casts a doe. A spellcaster’s Patronus can notably change as a person ages or based on their emotions. This personal and intimate relationship with Patronuses gives them a customizable edge that could easily inspire gameplay for Hogwarts Legacy.
How Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Add Patronuses
Hogwarts Legacy ultimately allows players to choose which House they would like to join, rather than having the Sorting Hat dictate their place. Rather than carrying on this same approach with Hogwarts Legacy 2’s version of Patronuses, players should face some trials. After all, Harry Potter did not learn how to cast a Patronus overnight.
Professor Remus Lupin taught Harry Potter how to properly cast a Patronus. If Hogwarts Legacy 2 keeps its same roster of professors, Professor Hecat should do the same for players. The Patronum Charm should be able to be cast after a few attempts, not right away. However, Avalanche Software should make sure that the keys associated with the spell aren’t too difficult, so players don’t get frustrated with the beloved spell.
As for discovering which animal players have as their Patronus, perhaps players could take a quiz similar to the Sorting. This quiz could be triggered once a player successfully casts a Patronus, or perhaps Professor Hecat could ask the questions before teaching the spell. Pottermore hosts a quiz that fans can complete to learn their Patronus, which Hogwarts Legacy 2 could easily take inspiration from. This quiz gives over a hundred different animals depending on the player’s responses, though some Patronuses are rarer than others.
Patronuses may not be the highest priority for Hogwarts Legacy 2’s additions, given its niche use, but it’s shocking that Hogwarts Legacy did not include Patronus gameplay considering how heavily emphasized the spell is in the original Harry Potter series. Time will only tell which features will finally have their time in the sun through Hogwarts Legacy 2.
