Summary
- One of the toughest choices facing Monster Hunter players when they first start out is which weapon type they should pick.
- Although you can always change what you’re using, PlayStation has a quick quiz to help you decide.
- I can’t vouch for its accuracy, though, as it gave me, a long-time Dual Bladers user, the Insect Glaive as my perfect match.
To celebrate Monster Hunter Wilds‘ launch last week, PlayStation has created a quiz that helps you decide which of the game’s fourteen weapons will best fit your playstyle.
For as long as Monster Hunter has been around, players have been faced with a very difficult choice at the start of each new game – what weapon should you wield on your many hunts? While you can swap your loadout pretty easily, it’s a safe bet that a lot of fans are going to mostly stick with and master one out of the fourteen arms.

Capcom Must Be Holding So Much Back For Future Monster Hunter Wilds Updates
Monster Hunter Wilds has a surprisingly light end game.
That decision has only grown harder as Monster Hunter has evolved and added more weapons. While Wilds sadly doesn’t give us a new type to get used to, that doesn’t make the decision any easier, especially for the newcomers that Capcom is clearly trying to entice with the more approachable design. If you’re still struggling, PlayStation might be able to help.
Don’t Know What Weapon To Use In Monster Hunter Wilds? This Quiz Should Help
Earlier today, the official PlayStation Twitter account randomly decided to celebrate Monster Hunter Wilds’ continued success by sharing a quiz on its website that helps you pick a weapon to main. The quiz asks you a variety of questions such as “How would you describe your fighting style?”, “What do you look for in a weapon?”, and “What style of attack do you prefer?”.
The quiz only has five questions to it, so even if you’ve already picked out a good main, it’s worth giving a go for the fun of it.
I went into the quiz already knowing that I’m a Dual Blades boy through and through and gave answers that I thought clearly matched that, but I ended up getting the Insect Glaive instead. That’s my second favourite Monster Hunter weapon so I guess it wasn’t far off, but that didn’t stop me from retrying until I got what I wanted.
Although the quick quiz is a nice little distraction while you surf your phone in between hunts, every Monster Hunter player knows that you really only figure out your main by trying it out against some big beasties. Still, if you’re wondering what weapon type it seems suits you best, dive in and give it a go.
