As you’d expect with pottery, accidents do happen, and you can end up with some smashed items. Luckily, you can repair broken pottery in a unique and beautiful way with Kintsugi. Here’s how to do it.

What Is Kintsugi?

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing pottery in a way which highlights the breakages to add beauty to the piece. Pots are mended using powdered gold, silver, or platinum. In The Sims 4, gold is used.

The technique allows the pieces to be glued back together in a way which creates unique patterns on the pottery. It is a technique designed to emphasize imperfections, instead of trying to hide them.

Especially when your skill level is low, pottery may occasionally break in the kiln, resulting in a mess of broken pieces. If this happens, then don’t worry. Just put them into your inventory and keep hold of them until you reach pottery skill level 7. This level unlocks the ability to repair ceramics.

All you need to do is click on the pieces and select repair ceramic. Your Sim will require a pottery wheel to make the repair, so make sure there’s one close by.

The item will retain any glaze pattern it had before it was broken.

Can You Deliberately Break And Repair Pottery?

If you want the look but haven’t been unlucky, then don’t worry. Your Sim can click on any pottery item and select break ceramic. Your Sim will quickly take a hammer to the item, turning it into shards.

Now you can select repair ceramic, and get a beautifully mended Kintsugi item.
