Santa Monica Studio has poured cold water on the prospect of any new announcements surrounding the God of War franchise during its upcoming 20th anniversary celebration. Many God of War fans were hoping that this anniversary event could finally reveal the rumored Greek saga remasters, but it seems Santa Monica Studio has no such plans.
God of War is not only one of the most popular PlayStation franchises, but also one of the longest-running. Kicked off in 2005 on the PS2, the classic God of War games used Greek mythology as their narrative backdrop. The final Greek God of War game launched in 2013 in the form of God of War: Ascension on the PS3, with the series then rebooted in 2018 with a Norse mythology angle. However, none of the Greek God of War games (barring God of War 3) are playable on PS4 and PS5, and many fans wish for the classics to be brought forward.

God of War’s rumored remaster collection may have missed PlayStation’s State of Play, but its inevitable announcement may come at an even better time.
It doesn’t come as much of a surprise, then, that last year’s rumors of a God of War Greek saga remastered collection for PS5 spread like wildfire in the community. Credible industry insider Jeff Grubb even claimed a few weeks ago that the God of War remasters would break cover around the same time as the series’ 20th anniversary this month, generating significant hype among fans. Unfortunately, Santa Monica Studio seems to have caught wind of the speculation and has promptly dashed hopes of an imminent announcement for the alleged Greek God of War remasters.
Over on Twitter, Santa Monica Studio recently announced a panel featuring various voice actors who lent their talents to the God of War series, which will be held alongside a Los Angeles-based art exhibition celebrating the franchise’s 20th anniversary. Wedged right in between the tweet was a statement confirming that there are “no planned announcements for this event,” effectively ruling out the possibility of the rumored God of War Greek saga remastered collection showing up during the panel or art exhibition.
God of War fans are understandably disheartened by the news, with some even wondering if Santa Monica Studio is being very deliberate with its wording and could announce the Greek saga remastered collection via a PlayStation blog post instead of at the 20th anniversary event. It remains to be seen how things shake out vis-à-vis the God of War remasters, but the 20th anniversary panel should still be notable for fans as it’ll feature original Kratos voice actor TC Carson alongside Christopher Judge, the current voice actor for the beloved character.
