Summary
- EA Play is removing 2 games in March 2025, including Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising and Frostpunk.
- Operation Flashpoint is being removed on March 14.
- Frostpunk is being removed on March 28.
EA Play is removing two games from its lineup in March 2025. EA Play, as its name suggests, is EA’s subscription service. Available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox (bundled with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription), EA Play gives subscribers access to a wide range of games published by the company. It also often gives subscribers free trials of its brand-new releases.
Compared to other subscription services, the EA Play library doesn’t remove games all that often. There are many games that will remain on EA Play forever, though other titles are eventually pulled because of expiring licenses, server shutdowns, and the like. The next two games leaving EA Play will be pulled from the subscription service in March 2025, so subscribers should make sure to check them out while they still can.

2009 tactical shooter game Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is being removed from the EA Play lineup on March 14, while Frostpunk is getting the boot on March 28. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising was developed and published by Codemasters, a company that EA acquired in 2021. Frostpunk, meanwhile, was made and published by 11 Bit Studios. It’s a city-building survival game that earned critical acclaim at the time of its release in 2018. No reasons have been given as to why either game is being removed from EA Play.
EA Play Games Leaving Soon
- Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising – March 14
- Frostpunk – March 28
While Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising and Frostpunk are the only two games being removed from EA Play in March, the company is also shutting down some of its other games. In fact, two games are getting the plug pulled on March 13, with EA Sports UFC Mobile 2 and NCAA Football 14 both shutting down that day. Neither game is currently available through EA Play, but it’s still a bummer that they are being shut down.
Another EA shut down is scheduled for June 30. On that day, Madden NFL 21‘s online multiplayer servers will be shut down forever. EA typically removes games from The Playlist well in advance of their server shutdowns, so subscribers won’t be able to jump back into Madden NFL 21 ahead of its shutdown.
Anyone that plays EA’s games regularly will want to consider an EA Play subscription. Even though games are removed occasionally, the service pays for itself for those that play the company’s annual sports games – assuming they’re OK with waiting six months or so to get access.
