One of the biggest questions new players have in Avowed is whether enemies and items respawn. This is especially important for those looking to farm materials or early-game items.
With a diverse range of enemies, from skeletons and spiders to monstrous animals and even sentient fungi, Avowed’s world feels alive, at least at first. However, as you clear areas, the world may start to feel emptier, raising concerns about whether enemies return over time. While some do respawn, others do not, and the system appears somewhat inconsistent.
Understanding Avowed’s respawn mechanics can help you plan your exploration, manage resources, and determine whether you can repeatedly farm enemies for valuable loot. Here is how it all works.

Do Enemies and Bosses Respawn in Avowed?
You will be surprised to know that enemies do respawn in Avowed, but not all of them. It also takes a while for them to respawn, so returning right after a short side quest will likely change nothing.
Smaller enemy patrols in the wild have a good chance of returning, but major enemy camps will not respawn after being cleared. Additionally, some enemies you find along quest paths do respawn even after the quest is completed, but it depends on how important they were for the respective quest.
For example, the Xaurips at the mouth of the narrow passage leading to Seegwin and Kauia for the Dawntreader side quest tend to always come back. However, Captain Trevik and his band of smugglers do not return after being killed, likely because they are heavily tied to their Precious Light questline.
Bounties are considered bosses, so they are not just regular enemies, but apparently, even bosses respawn in Avowed. For instance, the Yellowband Camp in Dawnshore always respawns even after you have claimed the bounty reward. You can farm them for some extra experience points and materials. Similarly, Octav the Firebrand can be killed twice to obtain two Sheathed in Summer daggers for dual-wielding.
Farming bosses in Avowed may be unintentional, which would make sense from a design perspective. This could explain the highly inconsistent and seemingly random respawning mechanics, suggesting they might be a bug. We will know for sure when the next major update arrives with plenty of fixes and balances.
The only confirmed rule for enemy respawns is when you die mid-combat. When you return from the “great beyond,” all enemies within the area will be back. However, opened chests will not be reset.
Do Items and Resources Respawn in Avowed?
Avowed encourages you to explore every nook and cranny to find loot because materials and resources do not respawn. Chests, backpacks, lockboxes, corpses, and breakable objects do not reset after being looted. Likewise, plants and herbs sticking to walls and ceilings do not grow back after being picked.
Lootable corpses, including enemies you killed but did not loot, remain marked on the map with a large “X,” allowing you to backtrack and collect any missed items at any time. They do not disappear.
However, this no-respawn rule does not apply to enemy-related items. Since most enemies tend to respawn in Avowed, you can backtrack to farm monster parts like Xaurip Tongues and Spider Legs, as well as common items that can be broken down into crafting materials like Softwood Branches and Iron Chunks.
