Resident Evil used to be one of the best co-op series, and 0 could bring that energy back.
If true, this will likely come as a relief to fans, who have long complained about the live action adaptations making huge changes to the source material. The first run of films, led by Paul W. S. Anderson and starring Milla Jovovich, invented a new main character with Alice, as opposed to leading with anyone from the games. Another adaptation, a TV show released on Netflix, also did this, as the story followed the daughters of Wesker – something that is certainly not in the games.
“I’ve been a rabid fan of these games for decades, and to be able to bring this amazing title to life is a true honor,” Cregger told Deadline. This further suggests that we’re getting a much more faithful film adaptation this time, although we’ll have to wait and see if this is the case by the time there’s anything to share from the project.
At the very least, the script is said to be ready, and with Sony onboard, work can presumably get underway. It remains to be seen if we’ll finally get a Resident Evil film that’s a hit with both fans and critics alike, but we won’t have to wait too long, as the film will be with us next fall.
