The perfect use for Monster Hunter Wilds’ excellent character creator.
Its poor optimization on PC is a big one and led the game to launch with “Mixed” reviews on Steam, and a perceived easier difficulty was the second. Players said Palicoes were now too helpful, and the monsters, in general, put up less of a fight.
If you’re in the camp that agrees with this, there’s good news, as players have created a way to make Monster Hunter Wilds a lot more difficult.
New Mod Allows You To Buff Monster Hunter Wilds’ Monsters To Unseen Levels
Posted on Nexus Mods by creator Ultros7 is a new mod that allows players to tinker with Monster Hunter Wilds’ difficulty. Split into four categories, the “Harder Difficulty Presets” mod ups monsters’ damage and HP and severely nerfs potion effectiveness.
The four difficulty options and the changes they make are as follows:
- Moderate: 40% more HP, 10% more damage
- Hard: 60% more HP, 30-50% more damage
- Very Hard: 100% more HP, 60-80% more damage
- Nightmare: 150% more HP, 100-120% more damage
Ultros7 suggests that with Nightmare difficulty, “Many of the stronger attacks by tempered monsters become one-shots here even on endgame builds, endgame hunts become fairly unforgiving and taxing.”
Many of the stronger attacks by tempered monsters become one-shots here even on endgame builds, endgame hunts become fairly unforgiving and taxing.
It’s not just the HP and damage that’s changed though, as Ultros7 has adjusted the wounds monsters receive and their part resistance based on difficulty. The mod plans to make for “longer hunts where the monster is active for longer and tends to suffer less from perma-stunlock syndrome due to the wound system.”
If you manage to take down these harder monsters, Ultros7’s mod will reward you with an increased experience, with 20 percent extra at Moderate difficulty going up to 120 percent at Nightmare.
The final major change the mod makes is a rework of potions. They will now take longer to consume, with the majority of their healing power at the end of the animation, meaning it’s more risky to consume a potion in the heat of a battle. The mod does increase their healing effects by 15 percent to compensate for this, but it’s still a big risk.
If you’re looking for a more challenging experience, this is definitely the way to do it.
