This information comes from none other than our big naturals toting friend, Withers. A throw-away line reveals that 120 days have passed from the time the Nautiloid crashes to when you defeat the Netherbrain. Of course, like with many things in the game, it’s triggered by specific events.
As spotted by TheImageworks on Reddit, should you let Karlach die at the end of the game, Withers will say, “In but a dozen tendays a lifetime was lived, More than mortal years. Mortal centuries were hers.”
“From the moment Karlach left Avernus the same day game events start to the day she dies on the docks after the Netherbrain fight is “a dozen tendays” i.e. 120 days. That’s how long the game takes place.”
Three months sounds a bit short, considering how much time we all spent in the Underdark or exploring the upper levels of the great city. However, most players think it canonically makes sense.
“This feels very accurate to how my home games usually go,” said one comment. “Based on how many fights there are in BG3, all the travel, downtime, and access to a dense city, I can totally see it.”
