Monster Hunter Wilds comes with a hefty amount of materials to keep track of. Players will have numerous sources for materials and can usually consult their field guide to find what they may need. However, before a player can see what drops a monster will have, they need to have already defeated it at least once.
Players will start in the Windward Plains area of the game, then head to the Scarlet Forest, and finally, they will find themselves in the Oilwell Basin where they can start picking up some of these Fossilized Fire Opals. Players will be able to start getting their hands on Fossilized Fire Opals while they are still in Low Rank.

How to Find Fossilized Fire Opal in Monster Hunter Wilds
Players can start gathering the item known as Fossilized Opal from the very start of their journey, as it can be sourced in numerous locations throughout the Windward Plains region. Players will need to interact with Exquisite Fossils on the map to harvest the treasures they hide. The fastest way to get to these materials is to first get on your mount, then open the map, then mark the Exquisite Fossil location. This will cause the mount to immediately chart the fastest course to that location.
Once players progress the game past the Scarlet Forest and to the Oilwell Basin, they will find more of these Exquisite Fossil locations. However, the ones here have a chance of giving them Fossilized Fire Opal. These can be harder to find on the map, so it is best to open the map and then navigate to the resources tab. Move down this tab until they find Exquisite Fossil. Moving left or right of this icon will pull players to where this resource is on the map. They can then mark it to have their mount take them to the spot.
If players do not pick up an Exquisite Fire Opal, they can fast travel to another area and then back to Oilwell Basin to reset all the timers on these resources.
What is Fossilized Fire Opal Used for in Monster Hunter Wilds
There are many highly sought-after items in the game that can more effectively be obtained through training with NPCs. Many NPCs can be traded with, but players will want to reach Sild, the Keepers’ Vigil. Here they will be able to meet up with Ren. Ren offers various items for trade, with the following ones requiring Fossilized Fire Opals:
- Eastern Honey – Used as an ingredient in cooking.
- Great Hibiscus – Used for crafting armor.
- Parashroom – Used for crafting special ammo.
- Sild Cotton – Used for crafting armor.
