With all those cities he’s built over the last few years in Tropico 6, I’d hate to think what El Presidente’s carbon footprint looks like. Clearly, the environmental guilt has got to him, because Tropico 6’s new expansion is all about embracing nature and making your cities greener. The Return to Nature DLC is the ninth to hit the strategy game, which shows no signs of slowing down.
With more than two decades of prestige under its belt, Tropico remains one of the most popular strategy game series around. Even though Tropico 6 is approaching the end of the typical shelf life for a Tropico title, it’s still throwing out DLC at a fairly consistent rate. Return to Nature may not come with a multi-level campaign like some previous expansions have, but it does have its own new scenario to help you get to grips with all of its fresh features, buildings, and edicts.
The new building types you can construct for your island kingdom include treehouses for residents, a forest school, and an outdoor gym. You can also set up beehives and enlist beekeepers – maybe El Presidente thought we said ‘they’ll make you a lot of money’ instead of ‘a lot of honey.’
There’s also the Biggdrasil – clearly a word play on the Yggdrasil from Norse mythology – which is a massive, customizable tree. This world wonder can provide buffs and benefits to various aspects of your civilization. It also just looks really awesome as a centre piece, don’t you think?

There are also now benefits for making your city as environmentally friendly and green as possible. “For those ready to embrace sustainability, the new Nature Value system rewards tree planting and eco-conscious planning with bonuses to efficiency and harmony.” There are also three nature-themed edicts to keep in mind too.
Oh, and on top of all that, El Presidente can now be kitted out in a suitably green and leafy jacket.
The Return to Nature DLC for Tropico 6 is out now and due to its lack of campaign it’ll cost a little less than previous expansions. From now until Thursday, March 20, it’s also got 10% off, making it $11.69 / £9.89. You can grab it here.
As mentioned, Tropico 6 is approaching the max shelf life that we’ve seen so far for games in the series, but aside from confirmation that it’s in development at a new studio, there’s been no word on the status of Tropico 7. As a result, maybe Tropico 6 still has a couple of expansions left in it, despite its age.
