Starfield introduced its first DLC last year with Shattered Space, and although it launched to mixed reception, there were still high points that need to be continued going forward. This year, many are expecting Starfield to get its second expansion. Bethesda has yet to confirm this, but it has been established in the past that the space adventure is set to get annual DLCs.
Right now, a lot of Starfield fans are waiting for news about what this DLC could hold in store. Theories have suggested that the name of the expansion could be “Starborn,” but this is purely speculation until made official by the developers. Starfield has improved a lot since its initial launch in 2023, and Shattered Space offered some interesting new content, even if it was a short chapter. One of the most significant additions to the game offered by the DLC is the new enemy types, and this is hopefully something every expansion will include going forward.

The Elder Scrolls 6 needs to let players make an excellent character, and can combine elements from past games to make it happen.
Starfield’s Expansions Need to Focus On Expanding Enemy Variety
Throughout the course of Shattered Space, players will run into enemies like Vortex Horrors, Phantoms, and the Redeemed, with Vortex Horrors being the most formidable. These crab-like mutant monsters bring a touch of horror to Starfield, and it would be exciting for Bethesda to add even more dangerous and grotesque alien life to the game. Granted, Starfield does have a handful of terrifying creatures, like the Hunting Cephalopod, but these types of encounters are far rarer than run-ins with the Crimson Fleet or other hostile factions.
DLC Can Fix a Common Starfield Complaint
The lack of unique enemy encounters is something that has been discussed by a lot of players who crave more variety in the types of antagonists they come across. From the beginning, Starfield has always aimed to take a more grounded approach to sci-fi, and while that can still be interesting, a lot of enemy encounters seem to involve the same scenario of just blasting away at other gun-wielding characters. The enemies don’t exactly inspire varied combat, which can run the risk of growing stale over time. A realistic approach to space is admirable, but it can also limit the possibilities in Starfield. Thankfully, annual expansions can keep that from happening.
Shattered Space adds 50 new locations to Starfield.
Other Shattered Space Features
- Players get to travel to Var’uun’kai, the home of the mysterious House Va’ruun, for the first time.
- The DLC introduces two new companions, Tane Salavea and Sahima Ka’dic.
- Shattered Space takes around seven hours on average to beat.
Currently, there haven’t been any details released revealing what the expected 2025 Starfield expansion will feature, but it’s highly possible that more enemy types are on the way. At this point, it would be quite a big surprise if Bethesda didn’t add at least one more enemy type in the next DLC. There’s no way to know for sure, of course, but with player feedback largely revolving around the need for more world-building content, adding extra enemies would only make sense.
Neither Tane Salavea nor Sahima Ka’dic can be romanced.
Starfield’s 2025 Plans Remain Mysterious
Since the launch of Shattered Space, word of Starfield‘s future plans has been kept under wraps. The Creation Club offers a hub where players can add more to Starfield‘s world, but another DLC waiting on the horizon is intriguing. Until Bethesda makes an official statement, there is only room for speculation, but theories predicting a Starborn-focused chapter could be a great platform to introduce strong enemies.
As Starfield continues to grow, only time will tell how Bethesda chooses to expand the scope of the sci-fi RPG. Staying grounded could have its own strengths, but allowing more flexibility with alien-like enemy types could also offer needed diversity.
