  • You call that a knife?

For a series that’s been around for so long, the main concept of Monster Hunter hasn’t changed much over the years. Kill monsters in the name of “science” -> carve bits of said monsters -> use them as armour or weapons to show them who the real apex is. While there are bits of story elements peppered around, that’s the crux of it, and it applies to Monster Hunter Wilds too.

Making cool hats from the corpses of monsters isn’t without its ethical quandaries.

Of course, with the advancements over the years and new monsters with every entry, these weapons are armour sets only get better and better. However, an often overlooked tool of every hunter is the carving knife that’s essential in harvesting the vital monster parts. Monster Hunter Wilds has decided to change this by giving hunters a visually different knife, based on the belt they’re wearing.

Introduce Alma To Your Knife Collection

Monster Hunter Wilds has introduced a number of new features to the series – a better handler who actually helps you prep, customizable stickers, and even an all-time favourite North Indian dish. However, an interesting new feature changes the look of your hunter’s carving knife based on the belt you’re wearing.

As pointed out by PushSquare, a player has made a collage of the different carving knives in the game, and they look spectacular. Some of them actually look like miniature greatswords, while others look like proper daggers. However, the highlight – and the comments seem to agree – is the Artian carving knife, which is literally a lightsaber.

Canonically, the carving knife is actually made out of one of the strongest and rarest materials in the Monster Hunter universe. The Guild only gives it to those who pass all their tests and become a registered hunter.

Technically, it’s stronger and more durable than any weapon you can craft, but due to the rarity of its materials, it can only be made into small knives that can’t be used in hunts.

Either the Guild is hoarding all the good stuff for itself, or we’re just giving the monsters a fighting chance by using regular weapons.
