Killing Floor 3 Hit With Release Date Delay

Summary

  • Killing Floor 3 has been delayed to later in 2025 due to feedback from its recent closed beta.
  • The game was expected to launch on March 25.
  • Developer Tripwire Interactive is working with parent company Embracer Group to nail down a concrete timeline going forward.

Initially planned to be released on March 25, Killing Floor 3 has officially been delayed to later in 2025. The next entry in Tripwire Interactive’s line of FPS survival horror games, Killing Floor 3 will task players with defeating wave after wave of zombie-like creatures when it finally hits store shelves later in the year.

Fans of the Killing Floor series have waited almost a decade for a follow-up to 2016’s Killing Floor 2. The upcoming third entry, which promises to support both solo play and four-player co-op, will bring the franchise to modern hardware, with Killing Floor 3 promising improved combat, overhauled character movement, and improved mobility. Bryan Wynia, the game’s Creative Director, previously explained that the game would be a “direct sequel” to the original 2009 title, bringing back the dark tone that many fans first fell in love with. While the community was beginning to hype itself up for Killing Floor 3‘s long-awaited March 25 release, Tripwire Interactive has some unfortunate news.

Killing Floor 3: The Evolution of Zeds Explained

Game Rant sits down with Bill Munk, the lead combat designer for Tripwire Interactive’s Killing Floor 3, to discuss the evolution of Zeds.

A new message posted on the game’s website states that Killing Floor 3 has been delayed from its planned March release date to later in 2025. According to the development team, feedback from the recent closed beta confirmed that they “missed the mark,” and more fixes and polish are needed before the title is properly released. During the recent beta, many players experienced issues with performance, lighting, and the feel of the title’s weapons. The devs explained that they are working with parent company Embracer Group to nail down a concrete timeline going forward. Additionally, the notice confirms that an update allowing players to independently select their perk class and character will be implemented after Killing Floor 3‘s eventual release.

Killing Floor 3 Delayed to Later in 2025

In late 2024, Embracer Group shared a financial update, detailing the company’s recent highs and lows. By the end of last year, the company had reduced its staff from nearly 16,000 to just under 8,000, with restructuring and layoffs continuing to ripple following a botched $2 billion investment deal in 2022. After a somewhat disappointing 2024, the new year has started off strong, with the recent success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 contributing some major gains to the Swedish media holding company.

While it’s unclear when Killing Floor 3 will be released, plenty of other horror games are expected to be released in 2025. Dying Light: The Beast will launch this summer, while The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 will debut on PC and console in October. Thick-skinned fans are also hoping to hear more about Silent Hill f and Resident Evil 9 before the year is out.
