Invincible: 8 Differences Between the Comic and the Show
Despite being a mostly faithful adaptation of Invincible, the Prime Video animated series does have a few differences worth mentioning.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan joins Invincible Season 3 as Conquest, one of the most brutal and sadistic enemies of Mark Grayson aka the titular Invincible (Steven Yeun). Conquest is a high-ranking soldier who is purely evil and is deemed one of Mark’s most dangerous nemesis. Prior to Invincible, Morgan and Yeun worked together on The Walking Dead as Negan and Glenn, respectively. In the series, Negan whipped Glenn to death to establish fear over Rick’s group of protagonists. The unforgettable scene caught the audience by surprise as no one expected Glenn to die since he was a true fan favorite. This time, Yeun and Morgan’s encounter will be much different because Yeun’s character Invincible is superior to Morgan’s Conquest. Morgan acknowledged some similarities between Negan and Conquest and jokingly said the reunion is Yeun’s “chance at redemption.” Morgan said, per Entertainment Weekly:
I was just thrilled to get to be a part of it and give Steven his chance at redemption.
Even if Morgan and Yeun’s characters in The Walking Dead were at odds, the two actors were actually good friends. Yeun was even pleased to work with Morgan again in Invincible Season 3. “We certainly couldn’t ignore that fact… All I can say is that it is always a pleasure and honor to work with Jeffrey Dean Morgan,” Yeun wrote in an email obtained by EW. “He is a great actor and human and also knows how to play a tremendous heel.”
Morgan and Yeun’s reunion in Invincible Season 3 is their first project together after The Walking Dead. Although both were busy after the apocalyptic thriller, they were unsurprisingly working on separate projects. So, Morgan and Yeun’s face-off as Conquest and Invincible excites fans. Although the show has nothing to do with their original series together, the duo working together again is enough to stir excitement. The pair have great acting chemistry, and many are excited to see Yeun’s character have the upper hand because they feel that Glenn didn’t deserve the tragic death at the hands of Morgan’s Negan. In TWD, Negan eventually changed over time, but despite redeeming himself, murdering Glenn stuck with fans as one of his darkest acts.
Finally, Yeun will be able to get back at Morgan in Invincible. Although Invincible’s battle with Conquest is one of the bloodiest in the series, he eventually defeats Conquest in the comic series. So, yes, Morgan is right that Yeun will be able to redeem himself this time. Fans can’t wait to witness that.
Invincible Season 3 is now streaming on Prime Video.
