Summary

  • Jenna Ortega impressed in multiple horror projects, but her role as Wednesday Addams is her best work yet.
  • Lady Gaga joins Jenna Ortega in Wednesday season 2, alongside an upcoming thriller movie with The Weeknd.
  • Ortega stars in three upcoming films: Death of a Unicorn, Klara and the Sun, and The Gallerist, showcasing her versatility.

After portraying innocent characters like Harley Diaz on the Disney Channel series Stuck in the Middle, Jenna Ortega became a staple of the horror and thriller genre, and I love seeing all her projects. Besides enjoying her turn as wise Tara Carpenter in Scream (2022) and Scream 6, I’ve been impressed by Ortega’s other horror movie roles including Lorraine in X. I have to say, though, that Ortega’s Wednesday character is her best work yet. After watching the actress portray sarcastic teenage Wednesday Addams, who is a now a Nevermore Academy student, in Netflix‘s Wednesday season 1, I’m more than a little eager to see Wednesday season 2.

Along with wondering if Wednesday’s stalker is a classmate, friend, or relative, I’m looking forward to one of Jenna Ortega’s upcoming movies.

Lady Gaga is appearing in Wednesday season 2, and she recently gave an exciting interview where she talked about the show very briefly.

I Can’t Wait For Jenna Ortega And The Weeknd’s 2025 Thriller Movie Hurry Up Tomorrow

Jenna Ortega stars alongside The Weeknd (whose real name is Abel Tesfaye) in Hurry Up Tomorrow, a thriller that also stars Barry Keoghan and is directed by Trey Edward Shults. The Weeknd plays a musician character who is having a tough time and goes on a shocking and strange journey. Ortega plays Anima, and while several details about her character are unknown, it’s clear from the Hurry Up Tomorrow trailer that nothing is as it seems in this story. One thing is clear, however: Tesfaye’s version of himself is terrified of Ortega and Keoghan’s characters. Some great 2025 horror movies are coming out soon, and this thriller deserves some atteniton, too.

I love watching Ortega play the bleak yet charming Wednesday Addams and hope Wednesday season 2 is dark and humorous, but I’m also thrilled to see her career going in some interesting and new directions. I think a unique and creative thriller like Hurry Up Tomorrow is the perfect next step for the star.

In February 2025, Ortega gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly and talked about her decision to star in Hurry Up Tomorrow. She said she wasn’t certain she was “right for it” at first and then said yes once she talked to Tesfaye and Shults. She also said of her character:

“It was my understanding while shooting that my character, Anima, is a version of Abel. A side of him that the persona the Weeknd doesn’t show as much. There were many iterations of Ani as the new script drafts came in…”

Ortega added that her character “felt everything intensely.” Shults praised Ortega’s acting in Hurry Up Tomorrow and said:

“She’s phenomenal in the film, and I don’t think we’ve ever seen a performance like this by her.”

I’m even more excited to see Hurry Up Tomorrow, which will be in theaters on May 16th, 2025, after hearing that. I like the complexity of every Ortega performance, from her impressive turn in Scream (2022) as confident horror movie fan Tara Carpenter to her drummer character Skye Willow in the underrated Studio 666. I was also amazed by Ortega’s emotional and devastating performance as teenager Vada Cavell in The Fallout. She’s excellent at portraying characters going through tough or terrifying times, and I’m intrigued by her Hurry Up Tomorrow role since it sounds like she has never done something like this before.

What Other Upcoming Movies Is Jenna Ortega Starring In?

Jenna Ortega as Ridley in Death Of A Unicorn

Jenna Ortega has a great TV background and several years before portraying Wednesday Addams, she played the kind-hearted Ellie Alves in You season 4. Besides Hurry Up Tomorrow, Ortega is starring in three upcoming movies: Death of a Unicorn, Klara and the Sun, and The Gallerist.

Death of a Unicorn is a A24 comedy horror movie that sees Ortega and Paul Rudd playing Ridley and Elliot Kitner, a daughter and father who hit a unicorn and find their lives altered. Klara and the Sun is a bit of a career departure for Ortega as she plays a robot named Klara in the sci-fi film. The movie is based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel. Finally, Ortega is starring in the thriller movie The Gallerist alongside Natalie Portman. While Death of a Unicorn has a March 28, 2025 release date, which is coming up soon, the other two don’t have release dates as of this writing.
