In Monster Hunter Wilds, there are a lot of materials you can find, and you’ll need a lot to make all your various pieces of gear. Most come from monsters, many of them come from the environment. There are quite a few items in the game that you can’t actually find naturally, and it comes down to a little bit of planning, and quite a bit of luck. The Sinister Cloth is one of those items, and you’re going to need it to get one of the game’s coolest (and edgiest) sets of armour.
Where To Get Sinister Cloth
Sinister Cloth is one of those items that’s impossible to know it even exists until you come across it, and you can’t really determine when you do. Sinister Cloth is found in one of two ways, and both of them are random.
The first is through Material Retrieval. When sending Murtabak from Kunafa out to gather materials, there is a chance he will come back with some Sinister Cloth as well. Again, this is entirely random, so you just have to be lucky. However, Kunafa is the only location that can collect Sinister Cloth through Material Retrieval.
The second option is through Item Trading. This is also random, as you have to wait for the item to actually appear before you can trade for it. Traders get new stock every in-game day, so just wait or rest and check again, though the chances of it appearing are still very low. Only two traders offer Sinister Cloth, and those are Kilama from Kunafa, and Gawdygog from the Wudwud Hideout.
Kilama will offer the item very rarely, but will ask for more common items for it, such as varying forms of Windward Aloe. Gawdygog will get it more commonly, but will ask for ten Ancient Wyvern Coins for a single piece. This is a pretty steep price, but oftentimes it will be the only choice you have.
Before trading or sending out Murtabak to collect items, make sure a Gathering Boost is active. This will get you double the items from trades, and will increase the chance that rare items will be brought back from Material Retrieval.
How To Use Sinister Cloth
After you’ve gotten some Sinister Cloth, which may take a while, you will unlock two new sets of armor, one for your Hunter, and the other for your faithful Palico. This is the Death Stench armor, a common occurrence throughout the series that is typically hidden in each entry.
It is a very cool set in terms of appearance, and gives the Resentment, Ambush, Intimidator, and Stun Resistance skills. To create one set, it would require five pieces of Sinister Cloth, and a total of ten if you wanted to make more variants of it. Your Palico’s version of the set requires an additional three pieces, meaning it would take a total of 13 Sinister Cloth to make the entirety of the set. A tall task with how rare the material is.
