There are a lot of monsters to hunt in Monster Hunter Wilds, but players will not get all the materials they need from these hunts alone. Players will need to explore the game’s world to find all manner of materials, from killing non-threatening creatures and harvesting from special spots on the map. There is one more important way to gather resources, and that is through trading.
There are a handful of NPCs in the game that players will be able to trade with, and sometimes this will require them to offer some particularly rare items. This can turn into a whole ordeal of gathering items to craft armor to fight a specific monster to get a drop that they can trade for a specific item.

How to Get Great Hornfly in Monster Hunter Wild
Players will not be able to get this material until after they have completed the story quest that has them slaying their first Congala.
Great Hornfly does not drop from any monster in the game. Nor can it be found anywhere on any of the game’s maps. The only way to get this item is for players to trade with Musharpeye. Mursharpeye is a Wudwud trader that offers a myriad of different items. Some of them will be ingredients players can use for cooking, others will be rare drops that players will repeatedly hunt for, and of course, they can offer players Great Hornfly. There are 4 possible items they will accept as trade for this item. These items include:
- Bulky Treasure – Obtained from Bountiful Treasure in the Scarlet Forest.
- Sparkly Treasure – Obtained from Bountiful Treasure in the Scarlet Forest.
- Eternal Scarlet Amber – Obtained from Amber Deposits in the Scarlet Forest.
- Fine Scarlet Amber – Obtained from Amber Deposits in the Scarlet Forest.
Players can open their map and use the materials tab to find all the Amber Deposits and Bountiful Treasure locations on the map. They can then chart the fastest route to collecting all of them to speed up farming.
Players will need to trade for Great Hornfly materials if they wish to craft armor pieces for the King Beetle and Butterfly armor sets. Players should wait until they have obtained armor with slots that can give them extra items while they farm these spots — speeding up the process. Players will have plenty of armor pieces with slots once they reach High Rank.
How to Find Musharpeye in Monster Hunter Wilds
To get to Musharpeye’s location, players will first need to progress the game until they unlock the Wudwud Hideout, which will be after they have slayed the previously mentioned Congalala. Players can fast travel to the Wudwud hideout within the Scarlet Forest at any time after it has been unlocked. Open the map and zoom in, and you will see Musharpeye as one of the vendors in this village. Musharpeye is a short walk from where you’ll fast travel.
NPCs will only have so many items to trade. Players will need to check back periodically after they have bought up all of their previous wares. Items such as Fossilized Fire Opals should be collected as players move through environments to use once their traders become available.
