The Queen Of Wa version of Himiko can be a little bit more laser-focused in her efforts in Civilization 7, as compared to many of the other Leader options. While there are civilization choices that can influence this quite a bit, it seems in Queen of Wa Himiko’s case, bolstering her strengths is usually going to be the right option, as opposed to trying to cover her weaknesses.

Lafayette is a military leader in disguise. This is the best Lafayette Antiquity Age strategy in Civ 7.
For Himiko, that strength is in science. She has some of the best scientific potential around, and combining that with civilizations that also excel in that area can help her absolutely fly through her tech trees, launching her toward a Science victory.
Himiko Queen Of Wa Overview
As mentioned before, Queen of Wa Himiko has an easy time generating huge amounts of science per turn. While she can do it successfully in any situation, her science generation increases considerably when she makes an effort to ensure that she’s friendly with the majority of the other civilizations in the world.
Kimiko’s innate bonuses give her:
- A unique endeavor that grants her and those she’s allied with a 25 percent boost in science generation.
- Bonus science per age for every leader that she is either friendly or helpful with.
- Allows her to support endeavors for free, possibly saving her quite a bit of influence.
- Automatically unlocks the option to use Meiji Japan in the Modern Age.
For Himiko, working in the best interests of multiple civilizations is going to send her further. Choosing the right civilizations to partner with can be important, as you don’t want to get dragged into situations or conflicts you don’t want to be involved in.
But without any allies, you won’t be using Himiko to her fullest potential, and if war does come knocking, you’ll have no one to ask for help.
It is perfectly plausible to chase a victory condition other than a Science victory with Queen of Wa Himiko, but other victory types just aren’t going to play to her greatest strengths.
Best Civilizations To Use With Himiko Queen Of Wa
Because Himiko has such a focused strength and victory condition to chase, she has more narrow civilization choices when looking to optimize her.
Maya (Antiquity Age)
The Maya civilization is going to bolster Queen of Wa Himiko’s science possibilities in the long-haul, and make for the best Himiko choice if that’s the route you’re committed to going down.
The most beneficial Mayan bonuses include:
- Their Palace gains 0.5 science production for every vegetated terrain adjacent to it.
- The Hul’Che, a unique combat unit well-suited to fighting and traversing vegetated terrain.
- The Uwaybil K’uh, a unique quarter that gives a production bonus every time a technology is researched.
- The K’uh Nah, a unique building that produces an incredible amount of extra science, particularly when placed on vegetation.
The Mayans have very specific terrain preferences, and if you’re in an area without vegetation, you’re going to have significantly lower potential.
But when played to their strengths, the Mayans contribute to Himiko’s greatest strength beautifully.
For the science objective in the Antiquity Age, you’ll be looking to gain and display ten scientific codices; with as quickly as you’ll be progressing through the tech tree and boosting production, this is going to come quickly.
Abbasid (Exploration Age)
There are a couple of strong choices in the Exploration Age when it comes to a Leader seeking a scientific civilization, and the Abbasid is the first. While they clearly have a heavy science focus, they’re also going to provide a small boost to gold bonuses, as well.
The Abbasid’s most relevant bonuses are:
- Receive a gold bonus in relation to your rural population each time you create a specialist.
- Production bonus towards the House of Wisdom.
- The Ulema, a unique quarter that increases science generation for each specialist in the city.
- The Madrasa, a unique building that provides a significant boost to science production.
Considering that both the Abbasids and the Mayans have built up a good supply of science generation, it’s going to really start rolling here. Which is good, because ramping up your generation of science is more or less going to be the entire point of the Exploration Age.
Ming (Exploration Age)
If you’re looking for a bit more of a consolidated approach, the Ming civilization can provide it. They’re more inclined to boost science production at home, though they do have a scientific penalty for any social policy that you have slotted.
Their most important bonuses for us include:
- 50 percent extra science generation in the capital.
- -15 science generation for every social policy.
- The Mandarin, a unique merchant that can establish a trade route allowing them to import resources, and gain you a gold bonus when creating a road.
- The Ming Great Wall, a unique defensive fortification giving defenders a combat strength bonus.
There are fewer important unique buildings with the Ming than the Abbasid, but a 50 percent increase in science generation can go a long way, depending on what you’ve got going on in your capital.
If enemies are at your door, the Ming Great Wall can be a big help in keeping them out.
Meiji Japan (Modern Age)
When it comes to a scientific Modern Age civilization, few come close to Meiji Japan. Their combination defensive units, production bonuses, and science bonuses can help propel you the rest of your way toward a scientific victory, especially when following the above previous civilizations.
Meiji Japan’s most relevant bonuses include:
- A science bonus each time you overbuild a building.
- The Mikasa, a unique naval unit that respawns the first time it dies at your nearest settlement.
- The Zero, a unique air unit that has increased range, and has increased strength when fighting and intercepting enemy air units.
- The Jukogy, a unique building that dramatically increases production, especially if built near coastal terrain or wonders.
The Meiji Japan have a lot of potential for powering through the tech tree in the Modern Age by overbuilding consistently, and can defend themselves with a bit more ease than other civilizations with their unique units.
Pursuing a science victory often puts a target on your back when it comes to opposing Leaders, so having some defensive capability can go a long way in ensuring you can maintain your lead.
Keeping Himiko’s unique endeavor going through the Ages is also going to be a great way to maintain a science lead; that 25 percent boost is going to mean a lot more to you, because you’ll be generating so much more science at base value. By the Modern Age, that bonus is going to be huge.
