Game of Thrones‘ George R.R. Martin’s new fantasy movie, In The Lost Lands, based on his short story, has finally been released in theaters, and it seems as though the legendary writer would like to continue its story with a sequel. Over the years, Martin’s works have been adapted into television shows and video games while acquiring millions of fans worldwide. Some of his most popular shows have been Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, and his latest upcoming series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, looks to adapt his epic fantasy world yet again.
Due to these adaptations, Martin has been thoroughly enjoying fame on a grand scale, which has brought even more attention to his books. However, as many fans of his will know, this has meant that his The Winds of Winter has now been pushed back into its 15th year in the making so far. Seemingly busy with a host of projects, including a possible Elden Ring movie, Martin’s latest adaptation might see a sequel and push the author even further back from finishing his long-awaited book.

George R.R. Martin’s In The Lost Lands Could Get an On-Screen Sequel
In an interview with GamesRadar+, In The Lost Lands director Paul W.S. Anderson and star Milla Jovovich discussed how they would love to expand on George R.R. Martin’s short story and its characters even further in a possible sequel. “I would love to delve more into Grey Alys, and Paul and I talk about it all the time,” said Jovovich. “We’ve talked so much about, like, her origins, and where she came from, and what is the curse, and how did she get it. I mean, there are so many questions.”
According to Anderson, who directed the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie, Monster Hunter, Event Horizon, and, of course, Resident Evil, said that Martin is also on board to jump into more stories from the fantasy movie’s world. “I know George would as well because his original idea was to write a series of Grey Alys stories. So touch wood, this might be the impetus for him to do that.” Anderson was also asked why he wanted to adapt In The Lost Lands over any other source material. “George had written a fairy tale that was dark and was for adults, and that to me was really exciting,” replied the director.
However, it seems as though Jovovich being a big fan of Martin’s was also a big factor in why the husband and wife duo decided to pick up Martin’s 1982 fantasy novel. “The ability to create something beautiful out of [the short story]” was something that Jovovich admired about Martin, calling herself an “avid” fan of the author’s. With reviews now out in the wild for In The Lost Lands, Martin might think twice about wanting to continue its story with a sequel, although he seemingly has nothing but praise for his new movie adaptation. Currently, on Rotten Tomatoes, the fantasy film is sitting at a 17 percent critic score, with an audience score still being decided. These figures could change over the coming days and weeks, but right now, things aren’t looking too hot for Martin’s latest adaptation.
