Erenshor is a passion project by the one-man studio Burgee Media. For the past four years, developer Brian “Burgee” has worked every night—except on Saturdays, he says—to create something gamers like him and Erenshor‘s fans have wanted for decades: a single-player “MMORPG.” Inspired by classic MMORPGs like EverQuest, Erenshor is a challenging, exploration-driven adventure with a unique twist: its “server population” is entirely made up of handcrafted simulated players called SimPlayers. These SimPlayers level up, chat, form parties, trade on the auction house, and even possess unique personalities and playstyles. It’s a shockingly convincing setup that leaves the lone human player with the uncanny sense of being part of an online community that never leaves them behind.
Although a limited, free demo of Erenshor has been available for some time, its upcoming Early Access release will finally allow players to leave the starter island of Stowaway’s Step and explore this sprawling world in depth. In a new trailer provided exclusively to Game Rant, Erenshor reveals gameplay from the Early Access build publicly for the first time. As a bonus, the trailer also reveals Erenshor‘s rapidly approaching Early Access release date.

Game Rant sits down with the developer behind Erenshor, a unique single-player MMORPG populated with interactive simulated players.
Erenshor Shows Off Early Access Gameplay
The trailer kicks off with footage of Port Azure, a bustling coastal hub city that serves as Erenshor‘s Crescent Reach—or Stormwind for World of Warcraft folks. Port Azure is home to numerous class trainers, the auction house, vendors, and plenty of quest givers, making it a frequent destination for Erenshor‘s SimPlayers and an excellent opportunity to recruit ideal party members. The reel then shows dozens of SimPlayers gathered in the misty forest of Faeri’s Break, showcasing the ambient activity of the game’s simulated population. Various other zones are also shown off to highlight Erenshor‘s biome diversity, befitting of an MMORPG. Like classic MMOs of ages past, Erenshor is heavy on exploration: it’s filled with mysteries to uncover and riddles to solve, and the solutions to quests aren’t often spelled out explicitly.
Erenshor Reveals Early Access Release Date
Later, Erenshor‘s Early Access trailer showed some of its non-combat activities, including crafting and fishing. Players craft in Erenshor by finding molds for items and then supplying the necessary materials, but there’s no skill level requirement. Meanwhile, fishing can be a decent income source by selling fish, but there also are rumors of fishermen snagging valuable treasures hidden below the water’s surface. The trailer then offers a few key details:
- 4 playable classes
- 35+ zones
- Over 1,000 items to find
Lastly, the news fans have been waiting for was shared right at the end: Erenshor’s Early Access release will be on April 14, 2025. For fans of MMORPGs but have limited time to play them, gamers put off by social commitments or toxicity in online games, or those who just wish to experience classic EverQuest-style gameplay, Erenshor‘s Early Access debut is, thankfully, just around the corner.
A free demo of Erenshor is available on Steam.
