This article contains spoilers for One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.
Summary
- Elbaf in One Piece is incredibly strong but has a weakness to fire and lightning that could bring destruction.
- The Treasure Tree Adam can easily burn, potentially splitting the giants’ forces and explaining Big Mom’s rampage.
- Fans believe Big Mom may exploit Elbaf’s weakness, making her a possible main villain in the upcoming arc.
Out of any other island in One Piece, Elbaf may be one of the consistently strongest in the series. Home to the powerful giants, the average citizen of Elbaf is much stronger than any other nation, making Elbaf particularly frightening for entities like the World Government. Even with their new focus on trade and culture over war, and the entire conflict surrounding the prince, Loki, One Piece’s Elbaf is still full of incredibly powerful warriors lurking around every turn.
However, despite being composed of mostly powerful fighters, Elbaf, as an island, has a particular weakness that could lead to the destruction of the giant kingdom and the Treasure Tree Adam. While this weakness hasn’t come into play yet, with Loki now free and the God’s Knights planning their attack, it seems like this vulnerability could be exploited soon. For now, however, Elbaf’s weakness to fire and lightning may foreshadow problems for the ancient island soon in the future of One Piece.

Franky Learns The Secrets Of The Treasure Tree Adam
From An Ancient Mural To Lost Villages
After examining the Ancient Mural of Elbaf in One Piece, Franky continues his tour of the Treasure Tree Adam with the giant, Ripley. During their tour, Ripley explains that each of Elbaf’s villages rests on the branches of the ancient and massive tree. However, with some of the branches being extremely old and dry, the tree can catch fire easily, and when one of these branches catches fire, it needs to be cut off to prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of Elbaf.
One day, lightning struck the village and started a fire… but, when a branch grows old, the fire… just never goes out. – Ripley
This is exactly what happened to the Elbaf village of Haugen in One Piece. After their branch was struck by lightning and caught fire, it was nearly impossible to put out due to the unlimited dry lumber the fire could consume. From here, the giants of Elbaf had to cut the branch off in order to save the rest of the nation, but sacrificed Haugen to do so.

The Treasure Tree Adam Can Easily Burn
- Burning Elbaf May Split The Forces Of The Giants
- This Might Explain Big Mom’s Rampage
From here, Ripley reveals that Elbaf’s one major weakness is lightning and fire. Although it seems that she is mainly referring to natural occurrences of these elements, these weaknesses can be exploited by someone looking to attack the island. Mostly consisting of a massive tree, if One Piece’s Treasure Tree Adam were to start burning, many of Elbaf’s stronger warriors may have to prioritize protecting the citizens and children of Elbaf, severely limiting the amount of physical strength available to deflect the attack. Additionally, even after deflecting the attack, the giants would most likely be forced to sacrifice large portions of their society, similar to what happened to Haugen, further weakening them.

This weakness also explains an element of Elbaf’s history, mainly Big Mom’s rampage through Elbaf as a child. While it seemed odd that no matter how strong Big Mom was in One Piece, she was still able to take down multiple giants, the sheer amount of damage she caused may be due to Elbaf’s weakness. In this flashback, the former Emperor, Big Mom, is shown to have set fire to Elbaf, showing the village burning behind her. Due to this, while she did take down a couple of giants, it seems the main damage she caused to Elbaf may have been due to the fire she started, which could have potentially spread to the Treasure Tree Adam.

A Villain May Start A Fire That Destroys The Village
Additionally, this weakness to fire has led many fans to truly pin Big Mom as the main villain of Elbaf. With her ability to control both fire and lightning, the two primary weaknesses of Elbaf, Big Mom, or whoever claims her fruit if she’s no longer alive, is one of the best characters to exploit the weaknesses of the Treasure Tree Adam. Paired with her relationship with the giants from her past, many fans believe that Big Mom may have a chance of returning to the Elbaf Arc.
You might say that the vulnerabilities of Elbaf are fire and lightning, in fact! – Ripley
Still, in the end, this weakness proves that, while the giants are incredibly strong, they do have a large weakness that could destroy the island of Elbaf in One Piece. Whether this is exploited in the God’s Knight’s plan or with the return of Big Mom, this weakness to fire and lightning is bound to come into play soon. Potentially, even Loki’s secret Devil Fruit in One Piece or the legendary hammer Ragnir may be something that takes his own home island down.
