Some of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach‘s preorder details, including its two editions and the prices of each, have been leaked online. First revealed over two years ago at the 2022 Game Awards, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach received its intriguing subtitle during Sony’s January 2024 State of Play, where it also received its 2025 release window. It’s the second big PlayStation sequel set to release this year next to Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei, the follow-up to 2020’s critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima.
Part of what made the original Death Stranding stand out was its massive cast of A-list Hollywood celebrities like leading man Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, Margaret Qualley, and even the likenesses of acclaimed film directors Guillermo del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn. It’s been confirmed that for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Norman Reedus and Lea Seydoux will reprise their roles as Sam Porter Bridges and Fragile, with Elle Fanning set to make her Death Stranding debut. Additionally, Mad Max director George Miller and Turkish-German filmmaker Fatih Akin are confirmed to be lending their likenesses for the Kojima sequel. Aside from casting, little else is known about what new gameplay features or elements Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will bring to the table, leaving fans hungry for more info.

With Kojima Productions seemingly having preorder editions and pricing set, it’s likely that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach could have its release date revealed sooner rather than later. Since Kojima Productions isn’t a first-party PlayStation studio, some questions have arisen about Death Stranding 2‘s potential day one launch platforms. With Death Stranding: Director’s Cut having finally made its way to Xbox last year, some gamers are wondering whether it was a move by Kojima to get Xbox gamers up to speed on the first game before the sequel drops this year. There’s also the question of a potential day one PC release, as some of the PC port windows of PlayStation’s games have been shrinking ever so slightly over the past few years.
Hideo Kojima is expected to share more Death Stranding 2: On the Beach details this week at SXSW 2025. Whether the esteemed game director brings a new gameplay trailer to show off with a release date at the end of it will remain to be seen, but judging by this leaked preorder info, it seems more likely than not.
