When Scream 7 was greenlit, fans of the long-running horror franchise cheered since this meant seeing the haunting and sometimes goofy villain Ghostface again. Then, audiences celebrated the news that Neve Campbell would play Sidney Prescott again. But the smart final girl isn’t the only legacy character who is coming back. Although Patrick Dempsey isn’t reprising his role of Detective Mark Kincaid, audiences want to know how dead characters like Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) can return. Scream 7 will have an extra dose of nostalgia thanks to these beloved cast members. However, it’s impossible not to hope there will be a clear explanation of how these actors can play these characters again.
After hearing that Stu Macher, Roman Bridger (Scott Foley), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) are returning for Scream 7, imaginations are running wild and fans are wondering about other faces showing up, too. Although at the time of this writing, other past cast members haven’t been announced, audiences wonder if even more past Scream stars could fit into Scream 7.

David Arquette is playing Deputy Dewey Riley again in Scream 7, but is there a logical way to bring back a character who Ghostface killed off?
Could Randy Meeks And Tatum Riley Come Back For Scream 7?
Redditor @Booklover4178 started a Reddit thread and asked if fans think Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy) could appear in Scream 7. Kevin Williamson once said he regretted killing Randy, and ever since his Scream 2 death, audiences have missed him. The fan wrote:
“I feel he was a big factor for the original 2 and to a lesser extent scream 3. For me Randy was my favorite character and I do hope he comes back. If Dewey can come back so can Randy.”
Redditor @Ventbeans replied:
“It really depends on how all these characters come back, but in a flashback/dream/similar thing I would be glad to see him!!”
Another fan wrote that perhaps Tatum Riley (Rose McGowan) could appear in a flashback “with proper de-aging.” Since Skeet Ulrich was de-aged for Scream (2022) and Scream 6 and Billy Loomis was made more sympathetic, audiences are curious if that technique will be used in Scream 7 or in future Scream films if they are made.
If Stu Macher, Roman Bridger, and Dewey Riley all appear via flashbacks, it seems likely that other dead characters could, too. Perhaps Sidney Prescott could reflect on her teenage years and remember her good friends Randy and Tatum. A flashback scene could share relevant details, especially if the new Ghostface is somehow tied to Stu and Billy.
Summary
- Fans rejoice as legacy characters like Stu, Roman, and Dewey return in Scream 7 for a nostalgic experience.
- Speculation mounts on other past characters, like Randy and Tatum, possibly appearing through flashbacks.
- Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox reprise their roles as Sidney and Gale, ensuring continuity and fan excitement.
Scream 7 has some new teenage characters, but it’s hard not to want to see Randy and Tatum again. They’re both significant characters in the Scream franchise, even though Randy only appeared in two movies and Tatum was only in the first one. Sidney could watch a tape of Randy explaining even more horror movie rules, which would be fun and nostalgic. Since Scream has always been a meta franchise that laughs at itself, fans always love hearing Randy talk about the genre. In Scream 3, fans learned that Randy recorded a tape for Martha Meeks (Heather Matarazzo), his sister, and he said horror movie trilogies change the game and Sidney should think outside the box. It would make sense if Randy recorded another message, this time for Sidney, and she only found it now. Or maybe he asked Martha to give it to Sidney at a certain point.
To streamline the story, Randy and Tatum could appear in a flashback together. They could joke about horror movies, which would be fascinating to watch since cynical Tatum and naive, innocent Randy don’t have much in common. Since so many characters are coming back, this scene would have to be brief, but it could still be powerful.
Which Legacy Characters Are Returning For Scream 7?
Although Scream 7 has newcomers like Ethan Embry and Joel McHale as Sidney Prescott’s husband Mark Evans, most of the legacy cast members from the sixth and fifth movies are returning. Although Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) isn’t coming back, as of the time of this writing, two members of the Core Four will face Ghostface for a third time. Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown are reprising their roles of twins Chad Meeks-Martin and Mindy Meeks-Martin. Both actors have talked a lot about Scream 7 recently. Gooding commented on how “gory” the sequel is and Brown said it’s great to film with director Kevin Williamson.
Neve Campbell is playing Sidney Prescott for the sixth time and Courteney Cox is back as Gale Weathers, which is great news for fans who love seeing these characters battle Ghostface together. It wouldn’t feel like a Scream movie without Sidney or Gale, and fans are curious about what their relationship is like now that they have known each other for so many years.
