A Rare Region-Locked Pokemon Will Finally Be Available Everywhere For This Year's Go Fest

Summary

  • Skiddo will be available worldwide in Pokemon Go via this year’s Go Fest.
  • Buying your ticket before April 15 will unlock timed research with a Skiddo encounter the reward for completing it.
  • Go Fest will also be the stage on which Volcanion makes its Pokemon Go debut.

Niantic has revealed more details about this year’s Go Fest, confirming Pokemon Go players will have the opportunity to catch a ‘mon that will be making its debut in the game this summer. However, equally as exciting is confirmation that a Pokemon previously locked behind specific events in select regions will be available to catch the world over.

The reveal about what to expect from Go Fest this year (thanks, Eurogamer) has been coupled with the ability to buy tickets to the events which will take place in Osaka, New Jersey, and Paris before the global event at the end of June. Even though you will have up until and during the events to buy your tickets should you plan to play along and attend, if you buy your tickets early, you will be able to catch Skiddo.

Fans Are Worried Pokemon Go Will Become Pay To Win After Scopely Sale

Pokemon Go fans are wary of Scopely’s aggressive monetiation strategy.

One of Pokemon Go’s gimmicks since its inception was the locking of particular Pokemon to certain parts of the world. I’m still haunted by the feeling of not being able to catch a Tauros. Skiddo’s exclusivity is a little more complex. The goat Pokemon has previously been a City Safari event exclusive, and those events have only taken place in certain cities.

That almost certainly means the vast majority of Pokemon Go players are yet to catch a Skiddo, but that’s all about to change. If you buy your Pokemon Go Fest ticket by April 15, 2024 – and make sure you play the game at least once between April 8 and April 15 – you will unlock Timed Research. One of the rewards for completing that research will be a Skiddo encounter.

It’s unclear when the Timed Research will be available. The wording implies those with a pre-purchased ticket will be able to begin their Skiddo quest from April 8, though it’s also possible the research might be saved for Go Fest. You also don’t need to attend one of the location-based Go Fests. Tickets will also be needed for select bonuses and features for the global event on June 28 and 29, and you can buy them now through the Pokemon Go store.

What’s for certain is Volcanion will not be coming to Pokemon Go until 2025’s Go Fest events have begun. Ticket holders will unlock special research with a Volcanion encounter reward for completing it. If you buy tickets for multiple Go Fest events after having already caught a Volcanion, the reward of a follow-up encounter will be replaced with Volcanion candy instead.
