Crafting equipment is one of the pillars holding up Monster Hunter Wilds, and naturally, as players fight and beat more fearsome monsters, they can expect to get materials for cool gear as a reward. Frenzy Shards are just one of the many material types in the game that feeds into this loop of hunt, craft, repeat.
Frenzy Shards are a sort of general material that can be obtained from a specific type of monster. They aren’t terribly hard to get, nor do they need players to do anything special as with Nerscylla Claws. Here’s what you need to know about this endgame crafting material.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Frenzy Shard Location
Essentially, Frenzy Shards are special monster parts that players can get by hunting any Frenzied Monster, including the source Frenzy itself: Gore Magala. These countt as Rarity 6 materials, so you can expect to get more of them when fighting monsters like Yian Kut-ku or Hirabami.
Frenzied Monsters often appear in the Iceshard Cliffs, the main habitat of the Gore Magala. However, it’s also possible to spot Frenzied Monsters in other regions. You can get a quick overview of what monsters are in an area by checking the Environment Overview tab on the map screen.
Additionally, some Optional Quests have Frenzied Monsters as their main targets. These include:
- Abberant Atrocity (Frenzied Yian Kut-ku)
- Misty Depths (Gore Magala)
Keep in mind that Frenzied Monsters only appear in High Rank once players complete the Lurking Shadows quest, where they have to slay a Frenzied Nerscylla in the Wounded Hollow.
To get the most Frenzy Shards per hunt, try to inflict and break Wounds as often as possible. Additionally, once a monster is weak, capture it with a Shock Trap and Tranq Bombs.
What are Frenzy Shards For?
Frenzy Shards are a type of crafting material that are used for making weapons and armor. As of writing, these are required to make Rarity 7 Gore Magala weapons as well as the following armor sets and talismans:
For the Rarity 8 versions of these weapons and armor, players will need Frenzy Crystals, which drop from any slain or captured Gore Magala. Any Frenzied monster of the same relative power level will also drop Frenzy Crystals along with Frenzy Shards.
