Space Marine 2 and Darktide are bombastic delights for 40k fans, but for me, Warhammer Vermintide 2 still holds the crown as the best co-op Warhammer game, at least if we’re talking about the more fantastical side of the Warhammer world. Astonishingly, Vermintide 2 turns seven years old this coming weekend, and if you’re eager to jump back in for the occasion then a new anniversary event is the ideal excuse.
Fatshark has packed a few treats into its new Warhammer Vermintide 2 update to celebrate the occasion. First on the list is a new event mission, ‘A Quiet Drink.’ You’ll find this on the event tab in Okri’s Challenges, and completing it at any difficulty will unlock a special anniversary portrait frame. The versus mode, which has been a popular addition since it was introduced to the Warhammer game last year, gets another map, the snow-laden ‘A Grudge Served Cold.’

Alongside this, a range of new modifiers have come into rotation on weekly events and expeditions. If you’re new, the recent progression redesign already makes it a lot smoother to play with veterans, but you’ll also be able to earn double XP on everything while the anniversary event lasts. That includes everything from character and hero levels to versus ranks. Additionally, sanctioned mods and dedicated servers that had been disabled due to issues are now up and running again.
Additionally, Fatshark notes that players who experienced progression loss when the versus mode launched should now have had their accounts resolved. Any affected users will also get a new ‘Abasement’ portrait frame as compensation for the issue.
Unfortunately, Fatshark has one small piece of bad news. It notes that the new weapon pack that it has been teasing now “won’t be coming out this year,” with no additional details on when we might see it. “We understand this is disappointing and, trust us, we’re just as frustrated about it as you are,” the developer writes. “We’re eager to get these weapons into your hands and will keep pushing to make that happen.”
The Warhammer Vermintide 2 seventh anniversary event is live now and will run until Sunday March 16. You can read through the full patch notes courtesy of Fatshark for additional details and bug fixes.
