Greek mythology is anything if not a mix of gods, mortals, monsters, and titans, all of which come to wreak havoc in Hades 2. Okay, well, not the gods, since they’re your main allies in your quest to make it through to victory. It all starts with introducing a new protagonist, Melinoe, the Princess of the Underworld, who is just as capable of fighting as the previous title’s Zagreus.
She’ll face many new enemies as Chronos, the Titan of Time, strives to take control of everything. He’ll have plenty of help, including the large and powerful Typhon, who has more to him than being a big, strong guy.
Who Is Typhon In Greek Mythology?
Although Typhon may not receive as much attention as the other mythological entities of Greece, he was undoubtedly a significant figure.
The poet Hesiod tells us that he was born of the union between Gaia, the personification of Earth, and Tartarus, a primordial figure representing the abyss stretching far below the Underworld.
Despite his lineage and tremendous power, Typhon was neither a god nor a titan, but a colossal beast. His appearance is debatable, but he’s been depicted as a half-man, half-beast creature with multiple animal features such as serpent-like limbs and wings.
He eventually formed a union with another monster, Echidna, who appeared as a half-woman, half-snake being. Together, the two birthed many monstrous creatures that would threaten god and mortal alike. He was also known to generate powerful storms at will and simply with his presence.
Realizing his power, Typhon challenged Zeus for supreme control of the universe. The battle was fierce, but Zeus eventually claimed victory, and the defeated Typhon was sealed away in one of several locations.
Who Is Typhon In Hades 2?
With Chronos leading the assault against the Olympic Gods in Hades 2, Typhon was more than happy to join his forces to get revenge on his old enemy. Freed from his prison, Typhon unleashes his might and his offspring, being referred to as the Father Of All Monsters.
He also shows off his control over storms to a degree that even Zeus struggles to fight against. Chronos commands him to watch over the Summit area, where his strongest storms occur. Once again, he’s neither a titan nor a god; he’s simply a giant monster.
However, he is depicted as so massive that only the top part of his chest and above are shown clearly. He appears to be a green-skinned muscular humanoid with a pronounced jaw, a long serpentine tongue with a snake head, two very long tusks, and red eyes all over his body, in addition to his two regular eyes and a large one in the center of his forehead.
What Is Typhon’s Role In Hades 2?
Typhon, named the Guardian of the Summit, is one of the main bosses Melinoe must fight. His role in the story is significant because his power allows Chronos and his forces to subdue Zeus and continue their assault on the Underworld.
Even though Zeus manages to fight back, he fails, leaving Typhon to keep him and the gods trapped on Olympus.
Due to his influence, monsters appear in the surrounding lands, corrupting the earth they walk on.
When Melinoe finally confronts him, she, with aid from the gods, can defeat him and knock him down to the base of the mountain.
