Summary
- The First Descendant is ending support for PS4 and Xbox One to focus on player satisfaction.
- Last-generation consoles will no longer have access to the game after June 19.
- Players can continue their progress on other consoles with cross-save functionality.
The First Descendant has been on a downward trajectory for the last few months. Despite trying to appease fans with bikini skins and a hot spring, February was the worst month on record for the title, at least in terms of its player count on Steam.
Despite floundering player numbers, the development team at Nexon has confirmed it plans to continue supporting the free-to-play shooter, outlining its ambitions for the game’s second episode of its second season.

“I didn’t expect it to be high, but I didn’t expect it to be 57 points either.”
While much of the content is exciting, though, we have just got our first casualty of its declining player base, with The First Descendant’s developers confirming they are ending support for last-generation consoles before the game hits its first anniversary.
The First Descendant Ending PS4 And Xbox One Support In June
In a recent developer livestream, The First Descendant team confirmed that support for The First Descendant would be discontinued on PS4 and Xbox One from June 19, two weeks before the game’s first anniversary.
It cited the fact that it had “increased the scale” of the game and that the team was spending “a lot of effort and difficulty maintaining the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One builds,” for the discontinuation. The team continued by saying, “Since season 3 is a ‘mega season’ update for us, so we wanted to focus our development team on increasing player satisfaction.”
The end-of-life support doesn’t just mean that the PS4 version and Xbox One version of the game will receive no further updates; instead, the game will be completely delisted from those platforms, and players will no longer be able to play the game on those consoles. Thankfully, dedicated players on those platforms will be able to take their progress to other consoles with The First Descendant’s cross-save functionality.
While clearly the reason for discontinuing the service is the cost of developing for an older console, Reddit users have speculated that it’s because they can’t handle the game’s new jiggle physics.
