RoboCop: Rogue City Sequel Announced

2023’s RoboCop: Rogue City is officially getting a sequel later this year titled RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business. Developed by Terminator: Resistance studio Teyon, RoboCop: Rogue City put players behind the visor of resurrected Old Detroit police officer Alex Murphy, complete with original RoboCop actor Peter Weller reprising his iconic role. Its story was set between the second and third RoboCop movies, and players could blast away criminals and solve dangerous cases as they patrolled the mean streets of Old Detroit.

RoboCop: Rogue City was a smash hit with fans of the classic 80s sci-fi franchise almost right out of the gate, gaining roughly 435,000 players within two weeks of its November 2023 launch. Much praise went towards how it captured the feeling of playing as the seemingly invulnerable RoboCop, armed with a wide array of powerful firearms and given the ability to choose between a more violent or diplomatic approach to following the hero’s Prime Directives.

Fans of RoboCop: Rogue City now have something new to look forward to this summer, as publisher Nacon has just announced a sequel. According to VGC, RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business takes place in OmniTower, a massive housing complex built by the morally questionable Omni Consumer Products. RoboCop is called into action when a group of highly trained mercenaries armed with cutting-edge weapons seizes control of the tower and repurposes it into a deadly fortress, and players will have to fight their way to the top against all manner of high-tech enemies.

RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business Release Window

As shown in the newly-released RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business announcement trailer, RoboCop will have access to an assortment of new weapons during his latest mission, including the freezing Cryo Cannon. Players can also deliver devastating finishing moves, smashing hapless criminals against concrete walls and nearby vending machines. Publisher Nacon describes Unfinished Business as both a standalone follow-up and an expansion to the original RoboCop: Rogue City, and its story likely won’t be as long as its predecessor.

RoboCop already has a rich history with video games, from sidescrolling adaptations of his first two movies to his more recent guest appearance in Mortal Kombat 11. The surprise success of RoboCop: Rogue City proves that there is still more potential for games centered around the mechanical protector of Old Detroit, and with RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business set to roll out this summer, Alex Murphy isn’t turning in his virtual badge and gun just yet.
