March Is Your Last Chance To Watch This Oscar-Nominated Action Epic On Netflix

Like the great and terrible wasteland, streaming services give and take. The ruined landscape of entertainment has been divided into territories by a dozen different Immortan Joes with dictatorial control over their little walled gardens. Netflix was arguably there first, but their rule stands on a shaky precipice with a dozen other warlords ready to take control. Original content is the main battlefield, but these services still need a strong backlog of beloved material. Netflix will lose one of its finest action franchises at the end of this month when Mad Max: Fury Road leaves the service.

Streaming was an odd home for Mad Max. These are massive blockbuster action films that should probably be seen on the biggest screen you can find. Somehow, neither Fury Road nor its recent prequel dominated the box office upon initial release. Only after the franchise came to home viewing and word-of-mouth started spreading did the audience find their way to the wasteland. It’s a tragic truth that could lay the Mad Max movies low before the long-standing creator behind them all runs out of stories to tell.

Mad Max: Fury Road will leave Netflix on March 30th, 2025. The film is a jewel in the crown of the Warner Bros. corporation, which should mark it for Max. It did occupy Max for some time, but it left its first home at the start of this year. It took up residency on Netflix, but its tenure in the land of Stranger Things will be short-lived. Sure enough, Mad Max: Fury Road leaves Netflix at the end of March 2025. Surprisingly, the recent prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, will remain on the streaming service beyond this month. Those who missed Furiosa, including a startlingly substantial percentage of the blockbuster viewing audience, should leap to Netflix and enjoy it right after their high-speed Fury Road rewatch.

Why You Should Watch Mad Max: Fury Road Again in 2025

Mad Max Fury Road

Does anyone need to be sold on Mad Max: Fury Road? When it came out a decade ago, all those who saw it celebrated it as the dawn of a new era of peerless practical effects, epic action set pieces, and brutal thematic resonance in the action genre. It didn’t do that, but it did stand out all the more for its unique accomplishments. Fury Road is a true epic that captures every level of enjoyment to be found in a great action blockbuster. On its surface, it’s a massive cacophony of some of the wildest sounds and images ever put to the screen. Anyone looking to sell the film to a friend need only mention the guy who shoots a torrent of flame out of his electric guitar or the pole vaulters with dynamite spears. However, those who look deeper than the madness will find one of the most sincere, heartrending, and genuinely deep action films of the last decade. It’s an examination of everything from violence to femininity with the kind of incisive takes that a film can only shout from the top of an armored death truck.

Mad Max: Fury Road‘s Oscar Nominations, Explained

Mad Max: Fury Road was nominated for an astonishing 10 Oscars at the 88th Academy Awards. It took home a whopping six Oscars, the most of any movie released that year. The film earned nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects and won the following six Oscars:

  • Best Film Editing
  • Best Production Design
  • Best Costume Design
  • Best Makeup and Hairstyling
  • Best Sound Mixing
  • Best Sound Editing

The accomplishments didn’t stop at the Oscars. It took home four BAFTAs, nine Critics’ Choice Awards, a couple of Golden Globes, and a spot on AFI’s top ten films of the year list. It was the highest-scoring film on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes that year. Its performance would be tremendous for any film, but it’s especially massive for a genre project that doesn’t look anything like the usual awards show favorite. Fury Road crossed a lot of divides to get all the attention it deserved.

Mad Max: Fury Road will leave Netflix at the end of March 2025. It will almost certainly pop up on another streaming service, but some projects aren’t so lucky. The current interconnected wasteland of streaming media can lose movies in the endless shifting sands. Anyone who still needs to see Fury Road should race to their living room and flip over to Netflix before the film disappears.
