Summary

  • Lego is giving away a Mario set to celebrate Mario Day.
  • The Toad Pit Crew set is free when you spend $40 on more on Super Mario Lego sets.
  • The offer is live now and will run through Mario Day until March 11, 2025.

Mario Day is right around the corner, and it’s a big one this year. It’s been 40 years since the release of Super Mario Bros, and even though Nintendo will be saving its big reveals for next month’s Switch 2 Direct, it will be celebrating this weekend’s Mario Day in other ways, including free Lego.

Nintendo began what has become a very successful relationship with Lego in 2020 and Mario has naturally been at the center of that relationship since the beginning. A lot of characters and locations from the Mushroom Kingdom have been turned into Lego sets since, and if you buy some of them between now and March 11, 2025, you could get a free set, one money can’t usually buy, thrown in for free.

Lego has released more than 100 Lego sets today with some notable additions to its massive list of options among them.

If you spend $40 or more on Super Mario sets at the Lego store, then the Mario Kart – Toad (Pit Crew) set will be added to your cart free of charge. Even though the listing for the Toad set has a $4.99 price crossed out, I don’t believe it can be bought separately. Similar to the Brite Bomber set Lego has previously given away when you spend enough on its Fortnite sets.

The Toad set is a relatively small one at just 39 pieces and includes a buildable Toad working a pit stop station for Mario Kart characters. The first Mario Kart Lego sets were released to kick off 2025 with various characters who have been a part of the spinoff series for decades included. If you have any of them, the Toad set can effectively be an add-on. Or, if you spend $40 or more on Mario Kart sets between now and Tuesday, the Toad set will come with them at no additional cost.

To qualify for the free Toad set, you will need to have $40 worth of Lego Mario sets in your cart. Buying a cheaper Mario set and then using non-Mario sets to bring the total to more than $40 won’t do the trick.

Even though it’s highly unlikely we’ll be getting a look at any upcoming Mario games for Mario Day this year, there is more than just a free Lego set to look forward to. Nintendo is holding a rare community event in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, tasking players with completing one million laps in ten days. The challenge begins tomorrow and you will need the tournament code if you want to take part.
