How To Gauge A Monster’s Health In Monster Hunter Wilds
A single hunt in Monster Hunter Wilds can take anywhere between ten and fifty minutes, depending on the monster, how prepared you are, and how aggressive you’re being. Every monster has a huge health pool, and they won’t go down easily, so every hunt is a game of endurance. There’s no way to check health stats, and even though you see damage numbers in a fight, you have nothing to put them up against in terms of a monster’s stats.
That all being said, there are lots of ways to understand how close a monster is to death and many hints that help motivate you and let you know you’re getting to the end of a fight.
- The monster will trip or fall over more often, along with limping when changing areas.
- Some monsters will try to retreat towards a nest if they have one in that region.
- Their movements will become more volatile and some attacks will have them throwing their bodies around instead of more concise attacks.

Understanding Monster Heartbeats In Monster Hunter Wilds
To see a monster’s heartbeat you’ll first have to track it, either by selecting its icon on the map or by looking at it and locking on with the following controls:
- PlayStation: Press R3
- PC: B
- Xbox: Press Right Stick
Once your Scoutflies lock onto a monster and start tracking it, the monster’s icon will appear in the bottom left of the screen, and you’ll see a flashing line below the monster’s icon indicating its heartbeat. At full health, the heartbeat will have large blue lines. As the monster gets weaker, the lines will get smaller and the pulses will slow.
As monsters get threatened or weak, the color of the lines will change from blue to yellow to red. Yellow or red lines mean the monster is threatened and aggressive, usually indicating it’s losing health and getting weaker. Red lines indicate a monster thrashing out, which you’ll see a lot more of as the monster gets weaker and the lines of the heartbeat get smaller.
Even at low health, a monster’s heartbeat lines can go back to blue if it escapes meaning it’s calming down, though it will go back to red quickly once it re-enters combat.
