One of the novel elements present in the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remasters is that a number of ‘unbeatable’ boss fights are, in fact, winnable. There is no better example than this duel between General Teo and Pahn. If you play through this encounter on the hard difficulty, you’ll find that it can be very tough. In fact, you may have thought that it is quite simply unwinnable and Pahn is meant to meet his maker.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Vs. Suikoden 2 – Which Game Is Better?
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes takes quite a bit from Suikoden 2, but the question remains, which game is better?
Thankfully, that is not necessarily the case. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about this fateful duel. It will tell you when this duel will occur, how to best equip Pahn, and what thresholds you should look to meet before beginning this encounter. We’ll also break down all of General Teo’s tells so that you are better equipped to defeat him.
Recommended Level And Equipment For Pahn
First of all, make sure to head over to Teien and sharpen Pahn’s claws to level 12, which is the highest sharpness you’ll be able to reach at this point in the game. Now, equip him with the Ninja Garb, Headgear, and two Guard Rings. You can purchase all of those from the armory in Antei.
Finally, Pahn should be above level 30. Minimum. The closer you get to 35, the better. You’ll still take more damage from his attacks than he will from you at that level, but it will be close to enough for you to make up the difference by successfully defending against his Special attacks. The best place to level up at this point in the game is Soniere Prison. Remember, party members share experience points, so the fewer party members you take the better.
Where Is The Point Of No Return Before The Duel With Teo?
Once you’ve won the second battle of Scarleticia, and confronted General Milich, you’ll be returned to Toran Castle. You need to be very careful about who you talk to in your castle. Make sure to save right away. And ensure that Pahn is strong enough to battle General Teo.
If you speak with the woman in red (Kasumi) waiting for you in the meeting room on the top floor of your castle, you’ll be forced into a cutscene, and then be unable to save before the Battle with Teo. Even telling Mathiu you “would rather not fight [your] father” will not let you disengage: you are locked in. You won’t even be able to heal Pahn if he is currently injured.
General Teo Duel Responses
As is the case with every duel, you counter an Attack with a Special, a Defend with an Attack, and a Special with a Defend. It is a basic rock, paper, scissors system. Teo will indicate his next maneuver by what he says. We’ve provided a list of each quote and what action they are associated with. This chart isn’t exhaustive, but it should provide more than enough for you to win the fight.

“My sword is still as sharp as ever!” “Now it’s my turn.” “Saw through my attack, did you?” “Impressive, Pahn.” “Is that all you’ve got? Now it’s my turn!” “Forever on the defensive, Pahn? I shall not hold back!” |
“Impressive, Pahn. Seeing through my attack like that. I must be more careful.” “What’s the matter, Pahn? Going to come at me again?” “Come at me, Pahn.” “It seems I lost my cool. I must be more careful…” “This next one will not get past me!” “Come at me, Pahn! Come at me with your most powerful attack!” “Very wise, Pahn.” |
“Let us see if you can read my attack, Pahn.” “I shall finish this with one strike!” “My most powerful technique…” “Impossible… Take this, then!” “This one will hit its mark!” |
