There is an abundance of resources and materials to gather in Monster Hunter Wilds, allowing players to craft new items and forge weapons or armor pieces. While the game does tell the player what resources are required to forge or craft a certain item, it won’t tell you where to get it exactly, unless you already have at least one instance of said item in your pouch or box.

Each resource type in the game belongs to a bigger category that determines where it can be obtained. Crystals, for example, belong to mining materials, and so does the 
Earth Crystal
. It’s a useful material for the early levels of both Low Rank and High Rank gameplay that makes it possible to craft new equipment with better stats almost without slaying any big monsters. For those unsure where to look, here’s how to get Earth Crystal in Monster Hunter Wilds.
How To Get Earth Crystal In Monster Hunter Wilds
Earth Crystal can be earned from the Mining Outcrops in the Windward Plains and the Scarlet Forest regions. Having a rarity of 4, Earth Crystal is not hard to acquire, and the player can earn a good amount of it by looting all the Mining Outcrops of a region.
It’s worth noting that each outcrop will go on a 15-minute cooldown after being looted before it can be harvested again. So, it’s recommended that players travel to Scarlet Forest after farming all the outcrops in Windward Plains. By the time they have farmed the forest outcrops, the ones in the Plains will likely have been restored, allowing for a good farming loop.
While harvesting mining outcrops remains the easiest way to get Earth Crystal, this material also has a chance to drop from smaller monsters like Chatacabra, Bulaqchi, and Talioth, both in High Rank and Low Rank.
Unfortunately, Earth Crystal cannot be purchased with Zenny, as no trader or vendor offers this material for sale or as part of a trade.

What Is Earth Crystal Used For In Monster Hunter Wilds?
The most important use cases of Earth Crystal are weapons and armor pieces that can be forged earlier in Low Rank and High Rank. If you ever attempt to forge a weapon that belongs to the Ore Tree, it will indeed require a few Earth Crystals, either at the first or the second level. In some weapon types, even weapons from other trees may also require an Earth Crystal in the entry-level build.
The good thing about Ore Tree weapons is that they do not require monster pieces, which means that the player can forge them earlier in the game by simply farming the outcrops, though progression through the story will indeed have them slay a lot of monsters eventually.
Speaking of armor pieces, both Alloy and Ingot armor sets in Low Rank require Earth Crystal for some of their parts. When it comes to High Rank, a few parts of the Hope Alpha armor set also require some Earth Crystal.
