How To Farm Nourishing Extract In Monster Hunter Wilds

There are many aspects you need to keep in mind when playing Monster Hunter. What materials do you need to make your next piece of gear, what element is most effective against a monster, do you have all the items you need to actually survive? There’s a lot to consider, and it’s pretty easy to end up short of the materials you need.

Nourishing Extract has appeared in multiple Monster Hunter games, but its oddly rare in Monster Hunter Wilds. That’s unfortunate since it’s needed to make some of the most powerful buffs in the game that make end-game hunts hard to survive otherwise. Here’s how to get more of it, and how you can farm it, too.

Nourishing Extract is dropped exclusively by Guardian monsters, which by extension means it is only dropped by monsters in the Ruins of Wyveria. It’s not just the large monsters like Doshaguma and Odogaron that drop it though, with the smaller monsters like the Guardian Seikrets. This might make it seem like there’s quite a few sources, but it’s a bit more complicated.

Keep in mind that the monsters that drop Nourishing Extracts can change between High and Low Rank, so make sure to check this before going on a hunt.

Nourishing Extract is only a Target Reward. This means it can never actually drop from the parts you break of wounds you destroy in the middle of combat. It all comes down to what the game decides to give you at the end of the hunt. This can mean a lot of long hunts with very little Nourishing Extract as a reward. It’s a bit trial-and-error, but it’s the only real way. You can’t buy or craft Nourishing Extract, just hunt.

Once you finally do get your hands on some Nourishing Extract though, there are some great items you can make. Three in particular, all consumables that are a massive help during more difficult hunts. Here’s each of them:

  • Ancient Potion – Completely and instantly refills all your HP, and also raises your HP and Stamina bars.
  • Mega Demondrug – A potion that boosts your attack power massively for a long period.
  • Mega Armorskin – A potion that boosts your defence massively for a long period.

Ancient Potions are a massive help in the middle of a hard hunt because you don’t have to wait like you would when drinking a Mega Potion. It’s instantly consumed, with your HP brought right to the top in the blink of an eye. Mega Armorskin and Demondrug take much longer to consume, but last dramatically longer than Pills and Powders. That’s why not having Nourishing Extract can make it a whole lot harder to survive endgame hunts. These items become necessities when monsters can defeat you in just two hits.

Might and Armor Pills and Powders stack with Demondrug and Armorskin, letting you build a massive number of buffs all at once.

When it comes to getting Nourishing Extract, there is no way around the fact that you just have to hunt some Guardian Monsters. That said, there are hunts that can potentially offer you not a single drop even if it otherwise should, and that can be incredibly frustrating. Thankfully, the game has quite a few mechanics to help ease this burden.

The first are Investigations. If you find a monster that drops Nourishing Extract, save them as an Investigation. This way, you can replay the exact same hunt three times, saving you time in finding another monster while also offering many extra rewards, too. The hunts you should aim to save are those that show they reward extra Valuable or Basic materials, as this is what Nourishing Extract falls under.

If you hunt the monster in the field right after saving it as an Investigation, this effectively gives you four hunts against the same monster.

On top of this, you can try to increase your rewards with the use of a Lucky Voucher. One of these is granted to you every day when you log into the game, and can be activated when you start the hunt through Alma. These are used up whether you win or lose the hunt, so make sure only to use them when you are confident you will succeed.

There are also certain meal effects you can get that increase the rewards you get at the end of a hunt, though you cannot apply these yourself. Instead, they are activated through Meal Invitations. As such, it is a great idea to farm for Nourishing Extract when this is active, though it’s not a method you can rely on do to the randomness of a Meal Invitation appearing in the first place.
