How to Beat Lala Barina

How to Beat Lala Barina

As the name implies, Monster Hunter Wilds is all about taking down massive monsters and taking their parts to make armor and weapons. While you will fight a variety of these giants, one of the more challenging early-game monsters is the Lala Barina.

This oversized spider-like thing has several weaknesses, but it can paralyze you during the battle. If you want to take down this monster with ease in this open-world MH game, you will need to ensure you know what it is strong against, what it is weak against, and where to hit it on its body to deal the most damage.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a complex game with lots of hidden mechanics. Here are some things that the tutorials don’t cover.

Lala Barina’s Moveset

If you want to get better at Monster Hunter Wilds combat, the most important thing is to check out the monster’s moveset before the fight. This way, you can be ready for whatever it is going to do. Here are all the moves the Lala will throw at you, so you can be prepared for its next attack.

Claw Attacks

  • Monster-Hunter-Wilds-How-To-Defeat-Lala-Barina-Moveset-Swipe
  • Lala Barina has three different Claw Attacks. For the first, it will lift its front claw and flick. For the second, it will swipe with the upheld claw. Lastly, it can swipe with its claws when its claws are spread out. Each of them are very well telegraphed; you should be able to dodge each of these by rolling to be behind the Lala.

Face Slam

  • When the monster rears back in this monster-hunting game, it will slam its front legs and face down onto the ground. In order to get away from it, the best move is to dodge backwards.

Petal Throw

  • Monster-Hunter-Wilds-How-To-Defeat-Lala-Barina-Moveset-Petal-Throw
  • After the Lala has petaled, it will sometimes hop forward and tear out its own petals. The petals will float around, and if one touches you, it will inflict you with paralysis. Just don’t touch any of the petals, and it will not bother you. Eventually, the petals will fall to the floor and disappear.

Petal Twirl

  • Monster-Hunter-Wilds-How-To-Defeat-Lala-Barina-Moveset-Petal-Twirl
  • After the Lala has petaled, it can also throw petals by grabbing onto the ceiling and twirling around in a circle. Like the previous petal-throwing attacks, this one tosses a bunch of paralyzing rose petals in the air, and you need to avoid them. Make sure not to hang out underneath the Lala when it does this, as it will slam down after it’s done throwing petals around. It can also do this on the ground, twirling in a circle and throwing petals.

Stinger or Slam Attack

  • Monster-Hunter-Wilds-How-To-Defeat-Lala-Barina-Moveset-Slam
  • If the Lala turns around, it will do one of two moves: it can fly at you with its stinger if you are further away, or it will slam its whole butt down on you if you are close to it. It can do this when it has flowered and not. The best way to dodge this one is to roll to the left or right, getting out of the way of its back end.

In order to take down the Lala Barina, you might be wondering the best kind of MHW weapon to take with you. Thankfully, you can use just about any kind of weapon and items you want in this battle, just so long as you avoid the two types of damage that won’t hurt this massive flowering monster.

  • The Lala won’t take water or dragon damage, so don’t bother using these when fighting it.
  • Fire is the strongest element when fighting the Lala.
  • You can deal a lot of damage to its head with a blunt weapon.
  • Its backside is weak against both sharp and blunt weapons, whether it has petaled or not.
  • As mentioned before, Lala can inflect you with the Paralysis status ailment with its petals, so be sure to dodge them.
