How Many Chapters Are There In Split Fiction?

Like the majority of Hazelight’s previous efforts, Split Fiction is a relatively linear narrative experience with a handful of distractions located off the beaten path. You will come across side stories, optional dialogue, and a handful of lovely easter eggs, but there are very few collectibles to hoover up on your way to the conclusion.

But with a handful of lengthy levels and myriad different mechanics and boss battles to try and conquer, reaching the credits in Split Fiction can still take a decent chunk of time when you’re trying to achieve that sweet 100 percent completion. Here’s how long it will take you.

How Long Does It Take To Beat The Main Story

Split Fiction’s main story took us 12 hours to complete during the review period with two players who were of equal skill level. But this is the sort of game you might want to enjoy with family, friends, or people who have never played something like this before.

Knowing this, your actual time investment is bound to vary depending on who you end up playing with and their familiarity with video games. For example, our editor-in-chief, Stacey Henley, ran the clock up to 25 hours, which is far above what we expect the average to be.

While we usually add How Long To Beat’s average, it isn’t available at the time of editing this article.

With a continuous mixture of platforming, combat, and boss battles to tackle throughout each level and learning curves needing to be taken into account for every new stage, this game is longer than both A Way Out and It Takes Two.

Split Fiction has 12 side stories in total, optional levels found as you progress throughout the story, which transport you to new environments, all with their own distinct mechanics. You will need to search for these of your own accord, which can sometimes involve a brief bit of platforming and puzzle solving, but the game never hides them from you.

Listen out for dialogue from Mio and Zoe, as the majority of the time they will make it very clear that a side story is nearby, and you need to seek it out.

As for the length of time each side story takes to complete, we didn’t stumble across any that lasted for more than 15 minutes. Meaning if you intended to seek them all out during a single playthrough, it would add a healthy couple of hours to your overall playtime.

Beating Split Fiction’s main story and the accompanying side stories will take roughly 15 or so hours for most players, depending on the skill levels of those playing. But there are also several unique trophies to be unlocked across most levels which require you to perform an array of specific actions.

These are easy to miss, and while the game itself doesn’t track them when it comes to your completion, you will need them in order to earn the Platinum Trophy. Thankfully, Split Fiction has a generous chapter select screen that allows you to load into any level and checkpoint that you previously experienced. It only takes an hour or so to sweep everything and see all it has to offer.
