NPIXEL has announced the global shutdown of their idle MMORPG, Gran Saga, scheduled for April 30, 2025. The game is closing just four months after its global release in November 2024.
Gran Saga is sunsetting as the devs found it difficult to maintain a continuous stable service
For those unfamiliar, Gran Saga is an idle open-world MMORPG, featuring Final Fantasy-inspired visuals, epic boss fights, captivating storyline, character customization, and more. It also offered fully-voiced, cinematic cutscenes, along with an exclusive soundtrack composed by the legendary Yoko Shimomura.
Unfortunately, Gran Saga Global Team announced on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the game will shutdown on April 30, 2025. Following this announcement, the game is scheduled for a maintenance break on March 6, 2025, disabling in-game purchases and game downloads after the maintenance.
However, if you have the game already installed, you can continue playing until its service officially ends on April 30, 2025.
On a slightly good note, the devs are offering refunds for purchased items, though they may not apply to any used items, or can be subject to app store policies. You can submit refund request till May 30, 2025 for review.
It is really disappointing to see the game shutting down just four months after its global launch. While some fans are sad about it, others are blaming the shutdown on poor marketing, lack of regional pricing, and mainly its auto-play mechanics. The good news is that you can still opt to play in JP, KR, or SEA.
