After having acquired a home base, it is time to start acquiring some soldiers. This is one of the odder dungeons that you’ll encounter in the Suikoden 1 HD Remaster. It is definitely on the short side, but it has some pretty tough enemies, and a truly bizarre trap that also acts as a mini game of sorts.

Suikoden 1 HD Remaster: Toran Lake Castle Dungeon Walkthrough
From the hidden chests, to the first big boss battle in the game, Suikoden 1’s Toran Castle is the first real test you’ll run into.
This guide will take you through the different treasures found in Lepant’s mansion. We’ll also explain the different traps, and give you advice for dealing with the tough robot sentries you’ll encounter throughout this dungeon.
Getting Into Lepant’s Mansion
Once you get into town, head to the big mansion. You’ll be told that you can’t see Lepant. So, instead, head to the inn. You’ll now talk to Kirin, and he’s got a plan for how you can get a meeting with Lepant. All you’ll need to do is engage in a little home invasion.
When you climb down from the roof, you start by scurrying about on the rafters. There is a treasure chest up here with shoulder pads inside of it. Once you climb down the ladder, and enter the building proper, head into the room south of the one you just exited (with the ladder to the rafters). Talk to Roc and he’ll join your army. The two chests next to him have 700 Potch and medicine.
Roc will allow you to store equipment and items you aren’t using at your castle.
Now that you are in Lepant’s Mansion, you’ll need to battle the Robot Soldiers. These guys are relatively tough, especially the ones with swords. If you want to more effectively fight them, attach the Lightning Rune Piece you got on Mt. Seifu to your hero’s staff. These guys are weak to lightning damage.
Head through the room on your right, you’ll enter into a room with multiple sentries. You’ll need to walk around them without ever crossing in front of them. If you mess up, and break their vision, you’ll need to fight. The chest in the bottom right corner holds a counter orb. Once you leave the room with the sentries, there is a treasure in the room northeast of it. Inside the chest is a SPD Rune Piece.
You can use SPD Rune Pieces to permanently raise the speed stat of one character.
Now, head south and down the stairs. In this next area there are four treasure chests. The one in the eastmost room has a Fire Rune Piece. In the room to the left there is a set of leather armor. Left of that is medicine. Finally, left of that room is a can of white paint (this is used for the recruitment of a character later in the game).
There is also a man here. That’s Juppo. Talk to him and he’ll disable the traps, but he can’t do anything about the giant wheel in the next room.
The game doesn’t tell you this, but you’ll also recruit Juppo by talking to him. Once this quest is over, you’ll see that he has joined your army.
The Giant Wheel
Once you enter the final room, you’ll see a massive wheel. If you stand on the arrow at the bottom, it’ll spin you. There are 5 types of tile you can land on…
Monster Tile |
You’ll need to fight four of those robot soldiers. |
---|---|
Treasure Tile |
This will give you medicine. |
-10 EXP |
This will lower every party member’s experience points by 10. |
+10 EXP |
This will raise every party member’s experience points by 10. |
? Tiles |
This will either give you Dragon Incense or a Fortune Rune Piece. |
Additionally, you can land on the exit, which will allow you to proceed and claim Lepant’s treasured sword: Kirinji. There is no way to influence the wheel. It is pure luck. You may get the exit in one spin, or it may take you a dozen spins.
After the first time you land on it, you’ll get a Fortune Rune Piece every time you get the ‘? tile’. That will permanently increase your luck stat, but only the most dedicated grinders should bother.
Rescuing Eileen
Once you’ve taken the sword, you’ll be confronted by Lepant at the inn. However, not long after, he’ll run off to save his wife. Follow Lepant to the commander’s house. After helping Lepant kill a few soldiers, he’ll join you. Enter the room to the south as there is a treasure chest in there. Inside it is a Water Rune Piece.
Carry forward and there are two rooms. The one on the left has a treasure chest with an antique inside. Enter the room on the right, and you’ll confront your old buddy: Kraze. There is no boss fight here, you just need to take out six soldiers, then you’ll ‘defeat’ him and recruit Lapant, Eileen, and Pahn.
You can choose to execute Kraze or let him go. The choice you make here has no material impact on anything else in the game.
