Bethesda Teases More Starfield Content in 2025

Summary

  • Starfield’s development team has exciting plans for the game in 2025, with more content and features being added.
  • Post-launch updates in 2024 improved the game with new features like land-based vehicles and graphics enhancements.
  • Players can anticipate more big updates in 2025, including a possible second-year DLC expansion.

Starfield‘s development team has some big, fan-driven plans for the game coming later in 2025. Last year saw a lot of big changes made to Starfield, and while there’s still some secrecy involved in what’s to come, it doesn’t sound like the team at Bethesda is done adding more content and features just yet.

At the time of its launch in September 2023, Starfield was expected to be one of the biggest games of the year. An original outer-space-themed RPG from the developer behind the Elder Scrolls franchise and modern Fallout games, it received generally good reviews from professional critics but underperformed in player reviews, with complaints about its big, empty, procedurally generated locations and repetitious exploration and combat dragging down the experience for many.

Starfield: Why You Should Start Over in 2025

As Starfield enters its second year, Bethesda has brought a long list of post-launch updates that offer players even more to experience.

Content added to Starfield in 2024 has helped to flesh out the game in multiple ways, and while the story-heavy Shattered Space expansion in September wasn’t well-received, there were plenty of other additions, like land-based vehicles, extra ship and outpost decorating options, an improved photo mode, detailed surface maps, and a slew of graphics and performance enhancements and options. Now, the game’s social media team is hinting that even more content is coming in 2025. While the time hasn’t arrived to share any in-depth details, a recent post on Twitter states that developers are still hard at work on Starfield and that they have “a lot of exciting things planned for the game this year” based on player feedback.

Starfield Players Should Expect More Big Updates Throughout 2025

The last big update for Starfield was in November, and its biggest feature was reserved for Xbox Series X players, unlocking uncapped frame rates after that feature previously had to be removed. The November update also made some big improvements to hunting down bounties through the Trackers Alliance, providing more appearances and locations for targets, and fixed a lot of bugs associated with quests introduced in Shattered Space.

While the developers are still keeping mum about what to expect in 2025, some devoted fans are already eager for Starfield‘s next DLC expansion. Standing as the only expansion to date, Shattered Space was released on September 30, 2024, less than a month after the game hit its first anniversary, but it was announced before the base game’s launch at the Starfield Direct in June 2023. While there have been almost no details about it, Todd Howard reported in June 2024 that a second-year DLC was also in the works, and if the history of the game’s announcements and releases hold to a steady schedule, players could be diving into the next DLC this September.
