While some of these might not be canon to the manga, they are certainly anime canon, meaning that they can prove to be significant for the overall storyline. While the argument over their canonicity still remains, there’s no denying that these battles perfectly encapsulate all that the shinobi world has to offer.

Sarada Uchiha Vs. Buntan
A Battle Of Strategic Wits
Episode No. |
Episode 31 “The Sharingan vs. The Lightning Blade, Kiba the Fang!” |
---|---|
Air Date |
October 25, 2017 |
Sarada Uchiha is a character who was initially shown to have considerable promise, though she was later sidelined after new powers, Otsutsuki antagonists, and world-defying developments were thrown into the mix. However, one of Sarada’s earliest moments when she took center stage was her fight against Buntan, a member of the self-proclaimed new Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist.
The battle may have only spanned one episode, yet it showcased Sarada’s potential as the only remaining Uchiha after Sasuke. With her newly awakened Sharingan, Sarada was able to copy Buntan’s techniques and rival her strength through creative wits and strategy. Some of the lightning style techniques that Sarada copied from Buntan remained in her arsenal throughout the rest of Boruto. The fight showcased that Sarada not only inherited her mother’s brute strength, but also her father’s strategic wits in battle.

To pay tribute to the Naruto manga’s 20th anniversary, the Boruto series incorporated a time-travel arc, where Boruto and Sasuke travel back to the Hidden Leaf Village during the time Naruto was a mere Genin. While the entire premise might seem rather absurd, especially since the arc had no basis in the Boruto manga, it still managed to present a fight that is arguably one of the best in the Boruto anime.
The arc witnessed the conclusion of Urashiki, an anime-only Otsutsuki clan member, who was defeated in a final battle by Boruto and young Naruto after the two combined their powers for the ultimate Rasengan. From the animation to the overall cinematography, the fight far exceeded anything seen before in the anime. However, due to its non-canon status, the battle often flies under the radar.

Episode No. |
Episode 175 “Beyond the Limits!” |

Air Date |
November 22, 2020 |
While Deepa may have been an anime-only Inner of Kara, he still served as a significant catalyst for Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki’s growth. Before their battle against Deepa, Team 7 was rather naive, as they believed that they could win any battle with enough willpower. However, their near-death experience with Deepa allowed them to realize that being a shinobi means looking death in the eye with no guarantee of coming back.
While the first battle of Team 7 against Deepa might have been in the latter’s favor, Team 7 had the upper hand in their rematch, especially since the three had developed their strengths and learned what it truly meant to be a ninja. In the final moments, Boruto’s newly developed Rasengan dealt the final blow to Deepa, defeating the cruel Inner once and for all.

Sasuke needs a way to grow stronger in Boruto. Here’s how he could achieve that without the Rinnegan.
Despite being a mere clone, Koji Kashin was able to go toe-to-toe with Jigen, who was near to being a full Otsutsuki. The battle was the first of many that took place against Jigen, later known as Isshiki Otsutsuki. Koji Kashin’s techniques were also quite reminiscent of Jiraiya, with some that far surpassed the Sannin’s own strength.

Naruto Vs. Delta
The First Display Of Kara’s True Power
Episode No. |
Episode 197 “Delta” |
---|---|
Air Date |
May 02, 2021 |
While Team 7 and the rest had already faced off against a few Inners of Kara, such as Deepa and Victor, Delta was actually the first manga canon Inner to face off against the protagonists. Moreover, she was the first to enter the Hidden Leaf Village and take Naruto head-on in battle.
Whether it was her Chakra-absorbing eye or her unrivaled Taijutsu, Delta put on a worthy fight, and she almost defeated Naruto. However, Naruto was able to discover the weakness of her Chakra-absorbing eye at the very last minute, allowing him to defeat the menacing cyborg. While it was certainly a gripping battle, some viewers were disappointed that the series had to nerf Naruto, since he barely used any of his actual abilities that were witnessed before in his battles.

Naruto & Sasuke Vs. Jigen
A Riveting Fight With A Disappointing Conclusion
Episode No. |
Episode 204 “He’s Bad News” |
---|---|
Air Date |
June 20, 2021 |
While Naruto and Sasuke’s battle against Jigen might have been a treat to watch for fans, it was certainly disappointing considering how Naruto and Sasuke in their prime failed to take on Jigen, a character who was barely at his full strength at that point. Moreover, Jigen only used his Kokugan to fight the two, meaning that he was able to best Naruto and Sasuke with just two abilities, Sakunahikouna and Daikokuten.
Despite the clear nerf to Naruto and Sasuke’s powers, the battle was still quite mesmerizing. It not only revealed new abilities and powers, but it also showcased the potential that Jigen had as an antagonist.

Kawaki Vs. Code
A Clash Of Two Karma Wielders
Episode No. |
Episode 293 “Farewell” |
---|---|
Air Date |
March 26, 2023 |
Kawaki and Code’s battle may have been short-lived, yet those few minutes of screen time showed Kawaki’s true potential for the very first time. After Amado had put the Karma mark back on Kawaki, this fight was the very first time Kawaki tapped into that very same power, and that too, to its fullest extent. Utilizing Isshiki’s power of the Kokugan, including the Sukunahikouna and Daikokuten, Kawaki was able to gain the upper hand against Code.
At that time, Code was no weak opponent, as he was one of the few Inners of Kara who rivaled Jigen’s power. However, Kawaki was able to completely overwhelm him with his newly awakened Kokugan powers. The fight, in a way, foreshadowed what was to come for the Boruto series, with Kawaki taking center stage as Boruto’s true rival.

The First Of Many Fights Against An Otsutsuki In Boruto
Episode No. |
Episode 65 “Father and Child” |

Air Date |
July 19, 2018 |
While the fights in Boruto‘s anime adaptation often get a bad reputation for their animation quality, Naruto and Sasuke’s battle against Momoshiki is arguably the best one. With little compromises to animation quality, coupled with Naruto and Sasuke fighting in complete synergy against Momoshiki Otsutsuki, the entire ordeal was quite reminiscent of their battle against Kaguya Otsutsuki.

Kawaki Vs. Boruto
A Fated Battle Between Brothers
Episode No. |
Episode 292 “Hunger” |
---|---|
Air Date |
March 19, 2023 |
Kawaki and Boruto’s battle in the latter half of the Boruto anime is quite similar to Naruto and Sasuke’s battles, whether referring to the fight at the Valley of the End or their fated Final Battle. However, it wouldn’t be quite accurate to state that the battle solely took place between Boruto and Kawaki, since Momoshiki was the one in control of Boruto’s body.
The entire ordeal was quite emotionally charged, as Kawaki was forced to fight his own brother. Moreover, Kawaki was forced to rely on Isshiki’s Karma Mark, something that he had long detested. The conclusion to their battle was even more sorrowful, as it ended with Boruto finally taking control of his own body and asking Kawaki to end his life in a bid to finally kill Momoshiki.

Old Foes, New Powers, & A Gloomy Farewell
Episode No. |
Episode 216 “Sacrifice” |
---|---|
Air Date |
September 19, 2021 |
Naruto and Isshiki’s fight may not have been the flashiest battle in the Boruto anime, yet it held the most emotional weight out of all of them. Pinned against a corner, Kurama had no other choice but to reveal his trump card to Naruto — Baryon Mode, a power that far surpasses Naruto’s Kurama Mode. However, using this one-time power comes at a great price.
Once Baryon Mode is used, the Tail Beast will cease to exist inside their Jinchuriki, a fate that Kurama suffered after Naruto used this new power. Apart from the emotional weight of the fight, the reveal of Naruto’s new Baryon Mode also added to the fight’s initial hype. Moreover, the battle showcased Naruto defeating an Otsutsuki single-handedly by himself, a feat that is yet to be rivaled by any other character in the Boruto anime.
