Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Hideout Will House Allies And Pets

Assassin's Creed Shadows' Hideout Will House Allies And Pets

Summary

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ hideout is fully modular, allowing you to place buildings.
  • The hideout is going to populate with recruits and other characters you encounter during the game’s story.
  • There’s also going to be animals you can pet, which is neat.

An exciting aspect of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the return of the popular recruitment system from Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. From what we’ve seen of this system, it’s similar to its counterpart in Brotherhood. In other words, you can recruit and then summon assassins to help you in combat or with stealthy kills. And all of these fresh-faced killers need a place to live, right? That’s where Naoe and Yasuke’s secluded hideout in Izumi Settsu becomes vital to their cause.

Ubisoft recently released additional details on Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ hideout system. Unlike previous iterations of this mechanic, Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ hideout system will be modular – you can place exterior objects on a building grid, allowing you to fully customise the decor of your “one acre” of hideout. This includes the ability to place new buildings and join them together if you wish. The whole system is a step up from Assassin’s Creed’s Vallhalla’s Ravensthorpe, where you could only populate the area with small decorations.

Gather Your Allies

It’s not just recruits who will live in Izumi Settsu – there’s a whole cast of characters that gradually populate the hideout as Yasuke and Naoe continue to gather allies for their cause. As Ubisoft put it, “The Hideout houses a very limited number of inhabitants at first, but this will rapidly change as the story unfolds and players explore more of the open world. Scouts, blacksmiths, duelists, and other folks from all walks of life can join Naoe and Yasuke’s cause, each with their own unique backstories and personal hurdles to overcome.”

These characters can also have emergent interactions based on the objects and rooms that you’ve populated the hideout with. For example, martial characters will spend time training in the dojo while sake lovers might instead spend a lot of time in the zashiki. In the post, systems associate director Dany revealed the team gathered writers from four of its studios to create all the hideout interactions, saying “I really love all the cool little moments they came up with.”

You’ll also be able to populate your hideout in Shadows with various pets. There are numerous breeds of cat and dog you can discover around Japan as well as a limited selection of wild animals like tanuki and foxes. You can place these animals in the hideout and yes, you can pet them.

It sounds like Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ hideout is going to foster the feeling of being part of a legitimate guerilla rebellion. While many of our past assassins have worked alone, it’s going to take an army to topple Oda Nobunaga.
