Coën

A Mighty Witcher From The School Of The Griffin

• Cöen was a member of the School of the Griffin

Coën is a very interesting character that is not greatly discussed in The Witcher games, although he has quite a story to tell. He is said to have contracted chickenpox when he was a child, which either suggests that he got it early in his life or underwent the Trial of the Grasses later than most candidates, as Witchers are typically immune to most diseases.

Along with Geralt, Lambert and Eskel, Coën is credited with having helped train Ciri in the art of swordsmanship. He is mentioned in the first Witcher game by the gardener at St. Lebioda’s Hospital, talking about a silver sword that belonged to him. Shani also mentions him in passing when Geralt asks about said silver sword, which can be used in The Witcher 3 with a mod. Cöen’s silver sword is one of the best in the game, so it might be worth trying it out in the third installment of the franchise.

Stefan Skellen

A Renowned Member Of The Nilfgaardian Imperial Secret Service

• Skellen was also known as the Tawny Owl
• He was tried and executed for treason

Stefan Skellen, also known as the Tawny Owl, was no less than a member of the Imperial Secret Service for Nilfgaard. When Cahir failed to capture Ciri during the Slaughter of Cintra, Skellen was tasked with getting a hold of her at any cost.

Upon Vilgefortz’ death, he was captured by the Impera Brigade and declared a traitor to be tried. He was sentenced to death by hanging in Millennium Square, and thus ended his short, yet exciting life. The rope with which he was hanged is featured in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, along with a few other Nilfgaardian items collected by Caesar Bilzen during the “A Dangerous Game” quest. Stefan Skellen is also featured on a Gwent card. He is depicted clad in Nilfgaardian armor, which resembles the Nilfgaardian Armor set players can get throughout The Witcher 3. Granted, it’s not one of the best armors in this title, but Geralt looks great wearing it regardless.

Cahir

A Brave Intelligence Officer Of The Nilfgaardian Empire

Many of those who have not read the books or played the games might still know who Cahir is, as he makes an appearance in the Netflix series. She was an intelligence officer of the Nilfgaardian empire, and a key player in the tragedy of the Slaughter of Cintra.

He was tasked by Emperor Emhyr var Emreis to locate and capture Ciri. However, he was unsuccessful in this task, which forced the Nilfgaardian government to put Stefan Skellen in charge of the mission instead. While Cahir might not be remembered as one of the best Nilfgaardian officers to have ever lived, he definitely deserves an honorable mention on this list for the roles he played in various important events. Cahir is featured in The Witcher 3 as a Gwent card and is even mentioned by Geralt if players choose the horse Cantarella in the quest “Broken Flowers”.

Leo Bonhart

Leo Bonhart is, without a doubt, one of the cruelest and most evil characters in the entire Witcher universe. He was a bounty hunter by profession. However, while others who pursued the same line of work did not enjoy the suffering of others, he took great pleasure in watching burial scenes and inflicting pain on others.

In the first Witcher game, Bonhart is mentioned by Jean-Pierre when players first encounter him in the swamp, and he makes allusion to his cruelty and superior fighting skills. While he’s not featured as a character in any of the games, he sure would have been one to make the most evil decisions at every turn.

Maria Barring, more commonly known as Milva, was a famous archer from Upper Sodden who led four fictional crusades against the dryads, hoping to reduce the numbers of their various expeditions.

She is briefly mentioned by Dandelion and the first Witcher game, and, like other characters on this list, is also featured on a Gwent card in The Witcher 3. She is also said to have joined Geralt’s company during his search for Ciri, which, given her hunting and tracking skills, was a most welcome event. Many players agree that she would have been an excellent choice for one of Geralt’s possible romancing options in The Witcher 3, but, alas, this never came to be.
